To the Rav, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,
Rav David (Rav D. Tenenhuiz),
Greetings and blessing,
I duly received your letter of the eighteenth day of the Omer*, in which you solicit a blessing for the Rav. When I find myself near the holy tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, I will mention his name, that he may have a prompt refuah*.
Nevertheless, you must explain to him what our holy masters have expressed on various occasions, and you will surely find the most just words to do so. You will tell him that one binds oneself to our masters (which is necessary in order to receive their blessing) by the study of their teaching. It is explained that "Hashem consulted the Torah to create the world" — the world in general, and likewise the "small world" that man constitutes.
He must therefore at once take the decision to set a time to study the teaching of our masters, and then he must keep his commitment. This teaching is an integral part of our holy Torah, which was given to Moshe Rabbeinu on Har Sinai*. Let him begin his study with the Tanya*. Doubtless you will be able to give him good advice on this subject.
May Hashem grant that this Rav, during long days and good years, study the revealed part of the Torah and the teaching of Chassidus*.
