Greetings and blessing,
I am responding to your letter, in which you announce to me that your son Yosef Yitzchak turned three years old (date of the upsherenish*) on this 23 Nissan.
Although it is possible to find a heter* (see letters no. 2539, 2586 and 2671) to cut his hair during the period of the Omer*, all the more since it has indeed been given for Chol HaMoed* (the prohibition of cutting the hair on Chol HaMoed* is stricter than during the Omer*), according to the Sha'arei Teshuvah*, Orach Chaim ch. 531, you will nevertheless consider what the Pri Eitz Chaim* says concerning the cutting of the hair during the Omer*, and, in my opinion, it would be good to postpone it until Lag BaOmer*.
Moreover, the Jewish custom is to cut children's hair on this day.
May Hashem grant you success, so that you and your wife may educate your children to Torah, to the chuppah*, and to ma'asim tovim*, with breadth of mind.

במענה על מכתבו בו מודיע אשר מלאו לבנו יוסף יצחק שי' שלש שנים בכ"ג בניסן.
והנה אף שיש למצוא היתר לעשות התספורת בימי הספירה, ובמכש"כ [מ]מה שהתירו לעשות זה בחול המועד (עיין שערי תשובה או"ח סי' תקל"א) (בכ"ז ובפרט עפמ"ש בפע"ח בביאור גזיזת השערות בימי הספירה) לדעתי כדאי לעשות התספורת בל"ג בעומר ובפרט שמנהג בנ"י לגזוז שערות תינוקות ביום זה, והשי"ת יצליחו שביחד עם זוגתו - שיחיו - יגדלו את כל ילידיהם שיחיו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבת הדעת.
