To the young man, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Chaim (Rav Chaim Ciment, of Boston; see letter no. 2269),

Greetings and blessing,

I am responding to your letter in which you speak of the boy-scout meetings that take place in the premises of the yeshivah*. The teachers can therefore have a positive influence upon them, take part in their tefillos*. You ask whether these activities should continue.

All this is positive, on condition, of course, that nothing undesirable take place within the precincts of the yeshivah*, and, of course, that the dispositions of the Shulchan Aruch* not be transgressed there.

In your letter, you do not evoke the problem of mixity. It is easy to obtain that it be excluded inside the yeshivah*, and, from then on, this same arrangement will be maintained also outside of it.

Obviously, one must, in the manner that befits, lead them to the practice of mitzvos*, make the Jewish children (the scouts here are presumably young children) understand that it cannot be otherwise. May Hashem grant you success in all this.

With my blessing for success in your sacred mission, which will allow you to obtain an increased blessing and success in your personal preoccupations,

במענה על מכתבו בו מודיע אודות האסיפות של הבאי-סקאוט שמתקיימים בכותלי הישיבה ובמילא יכולים מורי הישיבה להשפיע עליהם במדה חשובה ולהתפלל עמהם וכו' ושואל דעתי אם להמשיך בזה.

הנה בכלל נכון הדבר ובלבד ובודאי אין נעשים באסיפתם בכותלי הישיבה ענינים שלא כדבעי, ואצ"ל שאין נעשים ענינים היפך השולחן ערוך.

אינו כותב במכתבו אם אין בזה ענין של תערובות ילדים וילדות, שבטח בקל יש להפרידם מתחלה לזמן היותן בכותלי הישיבה ואח"כ יומשך זה בודאי גם בדרך ממילא בהיותם בחוץ. ומובן מעצמו שבאופן המתאים יש ללמדם הענינים דמצות מעשיות ולהחדיר את הרעיון לילדים הישראלים אשר אי אפשר בלא"ה, והשי"ת יצליחו בכל הנ"ל...

בברכת הצלחה בעבודתו בקדש ושזה ימשיך תוספת ברכה והצלחה גם בעניניו הפרטים.
