Igrot Kodesh · Letter 262 — Follow-Up on Pending Correspondence and Publications

By the grace of Hashem*, Sunday 13 Tevet* 5707, To the great Rav*, learned Chassid* who fears Hashem*, the Rav Y.[1], I greet you and bless you,
I will begin by asking you to excuse me for the long interruption between this letter and the previous one, which is due to my various and diverse occupations. You will surely forgive me.
I received, in its time, your letter from Menachem Av* and was awaiting a copy of the pamphlet on the use of the Holy Tongue* and a portion of the letters. For now, I have received nothing. You will surely keep your word, to the extent possible. Likewise, you did not respond to my question concerning a brief account of the communal activity of the Rebbe*[2] during his final years.
I thank you for your remarks regarding the omissions found in the collection of discourses Torat Shalom*. I am hopeful that you have already read the entire book. It would be wise, for the benefit of all, for you to note all the omissions and all the textual changes, in the order of the years or the pages, on a separate sheet, specifying the references — what you yourself heard, received from someone, or saw in writing. I am hopeful that we will finally be able to publish the supplements and corrections to this book, in which you will thereby have a share.
I sent you this collection of discourses without even waiting for your request, knowing your attachment to these texts. I am hopeful and certain that you will be among those who take part in the publication of the writings of the Rebbe*[2] by transmitting to us the texts you have in mind, whose content is of interest to all. You will send a copy, as well as the list of omissions previously mentioned.
I have asked that our latest publications be sent to you — the supplement to Derech Mitzvotecha* and Bad Kodesh*. You have surely received them in due time. If you have any remarks to make in this regard, please let me know, on condition, as I said, that you do not hold it against me if my response is delayed and that you grant me mitigating circumstances.
I conclude by greeting the members of your family and wishing you all good, Rav Menachem Schneerson, Director of the executive committee[3]
Perhaps you possess commentaries and notes on the Tanya* written by the early Chassidim*, or perhaps you know someone who has them[4]. We are indeed planning to publish a Tanya*, preserving its pagination, with references, notes, and comparisons with the first edition[5].

אתחיל בבקשת סליחה על ההפסק הארוך בין מכתבי אחד לחברו והוא מפני רוב הטרדות שונות ומשונות, ובודאי יאמר סלחתי.

מכתבו מחדש מנ"א בעתו קבלתי, וחכיתי להעתק הקונטרס ע"ד לה"ק והעתקת חלק מהמכתבים אבל לע"ע לא נתקבל, ובודאי ימלא הבטחתו כפי האפשרי, כן לא ענה על שאלתי בענין הסקירה ע"ד עסקנות הצבורית של כ"ק אדנ"ע בשנים האחרונות.

ת"ח בעד הערותיו באיזה השמטות בתורת שלום ס' השיחות תקותי אשר לעת הזאת כבר עבר על כל הספר, ומה טוב הי' ולתועלת הרבים אם הי' כותב את כל ההשמטות או שינוי הנוסחאות על הסדר (השנים או העמודים) בגליון בפ"ע ובהוראת המקור (שמע בעצמו או מפי אחרים, מצא ברשימה) כי תקותי אשר סו"ס יעלה בידינו להו"ל מילואים ותיקונים לס' שיחות הנ"ל, ויהי' גם לכ' חלק בזה

- ס' השיחות שנשלח לו ומבלי לחכות להזמנתו הוא מידעי את החביבות של שיחות אלו אצלו, ובתקותי ובטחוני אשר ימנה בין אלו שיקחו חלק בהו"ל כתבי כ"ק אדנ"ע ע"י שיודיע את השמור בזכרונו מענינים תוכניים הנוגעים לרבים, ישלח העתקות והשמטות הנ"ל וכיו"ב.

צויתי לשלוח לו מהוצאותי[נ]ו בזמן האחרון (הוספה לס' דרמ"צ ובד קדש) ובטח קבלם במועדם, ואם יש לו הערות בזה מטובו להודיעני ובתנאי כנ"ל, אשר לא יקפיד עלי אם יתאחר המענה שלי וידינני לכף זכות.
