Greetings and blessing,

I am responding to your letter of 9 Nissan, in which you briefly describe to me your life. You conclude by saying that, in a general way, you are a man of Chabad. I am surprised at this formulation. What does "in a general way" mean? Is it not the role of man to act concretely, in a precise manner and not "in a general way"?

Doubtless you study the teaching of Chabad Chassidus*, in public shiurim* and in your personal study. Obviously, you also learn the revealed part of the Torah. And you also participate in Chabad activities. It is in this way that one forges the receptacles and the channel that allow one to obtain the satisfaction of the needs, material and spiritual, of a man and of all the members of his family.

You should also find a way to support the study of Torah, financially according to your means and also physically, within the institutions bearing the name of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us — that is, the Oholei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch* network in the Holy Land. This great merit will allow that your wish and that of your wife be granted.

Thus, you will be able not only to finance the study of pupils, who are thereby considered as children, but also to have children in the most literal sense, as Chazal* say. A verse, in effect, must not be departed from its plain meaning.

Obviously, one must systematically seek to take the ways of nature. You will therefore consult physicians who are specialists in the matter, and you will conform to their prescriptions. May Hashem grant that you give me good news in this domain.

במענה על מכתבו מט' ניסן, בו כותב ראשי פרקים מדברי ימי חייו ומסיים אשר בדרך כלל נמנה בין אנשי חב"ד. ולפלא על ביטוי כזה שמהו הענין דבדרך כלל בה בשעה שמתפקידו של האדם הוא לעשות מעשים בפועל שמובן מעצמו שזהו בדרך פרט. ובודאי גם הוא משתתף בשיעורים דתורת חסידות חב"ד נוסף על מה שלומד בפ"ע בזה (ומובן שהוא נוסף על השיעורים בנגלה דתורה) וכן משתתף גם בעסקנות הצבורית בכרם חב"ד שכל הנ"ל הם כלים וצנור להמשיך המצטרך לאדם וב"ב בגשמיות וברוחניות וצריך הי' לחפש אופנים להיות מתמכין דאורייתא בממונו כפי יכולתו וגם ע"י טרחה בגופו בהמוסדות שנושאים שם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע רשת אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש אשר באה"ק ת"ו וגדול זכות זה למלאות משאלות לבבו ולבב זוגתו שיחיו שתהי' להם האפשרית לתמוך לא רק בהושננתם לבניך אלו התלמידים אלא כפשוטו ממש וכפסק רז"ל אין מקרא יוצא מידי פשוטו ומובן שלכל דבר צ"ל אחיזה גם בדרכי הטבע ובמילא צריך לשאול ולמלאות כהוראת רופאים מומחים במקצוע זה והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בכל הנ"ל.
