Greetings and blessing,

I received with pleasure your letter of Nissan and those that preceded it. You describe to me your efforts to draw close the heart of Bnei Yisrael* to our Father Who is in heaven. You are in contact with young men and young women. From various points of view, the latter have a determining role, as Chazal* explain regarding the verse: "Thus shall you say to the house of Yaakov and tell to Bnei Yisrael" — Chazal* say: "the house of Yaakov, these are the women; Bnei Yisrael, these are the men" — the women therefore prepared themselves first to receive the Torah.

In the future, you will continue to act in this way. Thus will be fulfilled the dictum of Chazal* that "one comes to the aid of him who wishes to purify himself," especially when one puts into practice the principle that in the realm of holiness one knows elevation and addition.

Last point, which arouses the greatest interest — you announce to me your engagement. You will consult, on this subject, the responsa of the Tzemach Tzedek*, section Even HaEzer*, end of chapter 11, paragraph 7, according to which you must know an entire tractate (the bride is presumably the daughter of a Kohen*; in order to marry her, one must therefore be a Torah scholar, a title one acquires from the moment one knows at least one tractate of the Talmud).

May Hashem grant you a mazal tov*, in a good and fruitful moment. You will build a Jewish home, an everlasting edifice, founded upon Torah and mitzvos*, as they are illuminated by the lamp of Torah, the teaching of Chassidus*. Thus your house will be happy, materially and spiritually at once.

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מד' ניסן וכן הקודמים לו, בו כותב אודות השתדלותו בקירוב לבן של בני ובנות ישראל לאבינו שבשמים. הן הבנים והן הבנות, שבכמה פרטים הן עיקר היותר גדול וכדרז"ל עה"פ כה תאמר לבית יעקב ותגד לבני ישראל, ובודאי גם להבא ימשיך בזה שאז מובטחים רז"ל בקיום פסק דינם שכל הבא לטהר מסייעין אותו ובפרט אם מקיימים הדין אשר מעלין בקדש ומוסיפין.

ואחרון אחרון חביב לידיעתו אשר בא בקשורי התנאים עם ב"ג תחי' (ועיין שו"ת צ"צ חאה"ע סוסי"א סק"ז שידע מס' א). ויה"ר מהשי"ת שיהיו למזל טוב ובשעה טובה ומוצלחת ויבנו בית בישראל בנין עדי עד על יסודי התורה והמצוה כפי שהם מוארים במאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות שאז הוא בית מאושר בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
