Greetings and blessing,

I am responding to your letter of 3 Nissan and to what was enclosed with it. You say that I gave the order to participate in the Purim* collection. I do not know who mentioned this term in front of you, for it was only a proposal. Obviously, when someone makes a proposal, it is because he considers it judicious. For all that, it is not an order.

You were the emissary to make known to me the names of the participants in this collection. You will kindly communicate to them also this clarification, while emphasizing that their initiative was good and judicious.

The excerpt of a sichah* that reached you must have allowed this to be established. You will also consult the Likkutei Torah*, at the beginning of parshas Shemini, which comments on the expression "vayikrav."

במענה על מכתבו מג' ניסן עם המצורפים אליו. הנה מ"ש שהיתה פקודה ממני על דבר הצטרפות למגבית פורים, איני יודע מי כתב אליו לשון כזה, ולא היתה בזה אלא הצעה, אף שמובן שכשאדם מציע דבר - לפי דעתו נכון הוא, אבל לא בלשון של פקודה.

וכיון שהי' שליח להודיע שמות המשתתפים במגבית הנ"ל, הרי מטובו להוסיף ג"כ הערה הנ"ל, שמצדי לא היתה בזה אלא הצעה ולא פקודה. ושלאידך גיסא - דבר נכון וטוב עשו בהשתתפותם, וכמובן מקטע השיחה שבטח הגיעה אליהם, ועיין לקו"ת ריש פרשת שמיני בפי' לשון הגיע...
