Greetings and blessing,

I am responding to your letter, which was not dated, with the request for blessing it contained, of which I shall give a reading at a propitious moment, without making it a vow, at the holy tziyun* of my father-in-law the Rebbe, whose merit shall protect us.

You tell me that several doctors propose that you have a few teeth pulled, but for the moment you have not yet taken the decision to do so.

Indeed, maseches Pesachim 113a says that one should not have a tooth pulled, but you know that, regarding the medical treatments proposed by the Talmud*, one considers that human nature has changed. You also write that you heard the same statement reported in the name of the Tzemach Tzedek*. I myself have heard that the tzaddik*, Rabbi Hillel of Paritch, did not have a tooth extracted, according to what is told.

Nevertheless, in this matter we must hold to what was practiced in the family of the Rebbe. In this case, one conformed to the prescriptions of the doctor. How much more so must this be the case for you, since the doctors tell you that the health of your body depends on it.

In these days, we see the appearance of the matzah*, the "food of refuah*." That is the reason why one does not consume it during the thirty days preceding Pesach*. You will therefore have a prompt refuah* in what concerns you, and the same will be true for your wife.

במענה על מכתבו - בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - עם הפ"נ המוסגר בו (אשר בל"נ אקראהו בעת רצון על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע) בו כותב אשר כמה רופאים מציעים לו להסיר איזה משיניו ולע"ע לא הוסכם אצלו לעשות כזה.

והנה אף דאיתא בפסחים קי"ג ע"א ולא תעקר ככא, אבל ידוע כבר שנשתנו הטבעים בהנוגע להרפואות שבש"ס. ומ"ש ששמע בזה שמועה בשם כ"ק אדמו"ר הצ"צ, וכן שמעתי שמועה המספרים על הרה"צ ר' הלל מפאריטש שלא הי' עוקר השינים, אבל אנו אין לנו אלא מה שראינו בבית הרב שנשמעו בזה להוראות הרופאים, ובפרט בנדון כת"ר שהרופא אומר שבזה נוגע ותלוי בריאות כל הגוף.

ובימים אלו שמתחילים כבר ענין המצה מיכלא דאסוותא שלכן יש להזהר מאכילת מצה ל' יום לפני הפסח הרי יומשך גם לו רפו"ק בהנ"ל וכן לזוגתו תחי'...
