Greetings and blessing,
I am responding to your letter of 22 Adar Sheni, in which you ask me about the slightest detail of the conduct you should adopt.
In such a case, one must consult the older Chassidim who are on the spot. They will indicate to you what should be done. For it is impossible to envision all the details, all the more so since conditions are fluctuating. I shall therefore indicate here only a few points:
A) You ask me whether you should devote yourself totally to your activity of dissemination, to the point of no longer thinking of your own person. I am surprised that you can even envision its being so. An attitude that would always be identical could only belong to the world of Tohu*.
You must also study the revealed part of the Torah and Chassidus*, until becoming a learned scholar. This is important, including for your activity of dissemination and for your personality as a Chassid. There is surely no need to say more.
B) You ask me whether you must take account of your health. Here again, I am astonished that you ask me about what is clearly established by various texts. You will also consult the chassidishe* maamar* of 10 Shevat 5713 (1953), which shows that, in the words of the Rambam*, "the fact of having a healthy and whole body is part of avodas Hashem*."
C) You ask me whether every decision must be put into practice, even when it conflicts with logic, or whether one must take account of other persons, of the place, and of the time. Such a question also belongs to the world of Tohu*, for in that of Tikkun*, it is quite clear that one takes account of other persons, of the place, and of the time.
For all that, one should not preoccupy oneself with this excessively, but rather use it for avodas Hashem*. Certainly, in order to obtain such a result, the foundation and the beginning of avodas Hashem* must be bittul*. The ultimate purpose of this avodah* is to transcend reason. But one cannot fight permanently against logic.
I am surprised that on such obvious points you have not taken the counsel of the older Chassidim who are in your city.
With my blessing for a kosher and freilichen* Pesach*, and for an avodas Hashem* that is organized as our holy Torah requires and as our holy masters explain,
