Greetings and blessing,

I received with pleasure your letter of 18 Adar Sheni, which followed a long silence on your communal activity. I hope that in the future you will continue to write to me on this subject.

In an official manner, the letters must be joint — emanating from all the directors of an institution, in this case the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch network in the Holy Land. But, in addition to such letters, it is good that, unofficially, each person in charge be able to give his opinion.

Obviously, this is not lashon hara*, in this case, since it is a matter of defining concrete action. Various seforim* explain it, and Chazal* emphasize, in maseches Pesachim 3a, the necessity of adopting a positive formulation, specifying that for this purpose, the verse introduces eight extra letters — describing the animals which entered Noach's* ark, the Torah says "hachayah asher einenah tehorah" — "the animals which are not pure" — and not "the impure animals," in order to avoid a non-positive formulation. Nevertheless, this was so only because it was a narrative — that of the Mabul*. By contrast, it is not the same when it comes to fixing halachah*, where one must be as precise as possible, even if for that one must set aside the positive formulation, as is proven by this week's parshah* and that of last week.

You are bringing your contribution to an institution of my father-in-law the Rebbe, whose merit shall protect us. This will hasten and broaden the realization of the brachos* of Hashem, for you and for the members of your family in general — to derive chassidishe* nachas* from your sons and daughters in particular.

Awaiting your good tidings, I conclude by sending you my blessing for a kosher and freilichen* Pesach*.

שלום וברכה!

לאחרי שתיקתו הארוכה אודות עסקנותו בצ"צ, נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מח"י אדר שני, ובטח גם להבא יכתוב עד"ז.

ואף שבאופן רשמי צריכים לסדר מכתבים משותפים, הרי מכמה טעמים נכון הוא כשנוסף על הכתיבה הרשמית יתקבל ג"כ חוו"ד חברי ההנהלה באופן בלתי רשמי.

ומובן שאין בזה ענין של היפך דלשון טוב כיון שזה נוגע לעבודה בפועל. וכמבואר בכמה ספרים גם על מרז"ל בענין לשון נקי' שעקם הכתוב שמונה אותיות, שזהו רק בסיפור ענין, אבל לא בפסקי דינים, וכמו בפרשת שבוע זו ושעברה.

והשתתפותו במוסד כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע ימהר ויוסיף ברכות השי"ת לו ולב"ב שיחיו בכלל ובנוגע לנחת חסידותי מבניו ובנותיו בפרט.
