Greetings and blessing,
I received with pleasure, after a long interruption, your letter of motzaei Shabbos* Shushan Purim*, in which you tell me of your state of health, which had not been satisfactory and is now improved.
You also speak to me of your Torah studies. I am surprised that you do not speak of the recital of Tehillim* after the morning tefillah*, in accordance with the takanah* — addressed to all — of my father-in-law the Rebbe, the head of our generation.
I hope that you also take part in the chalukas haShas*. As several Likkutei Dibburim* published by Machaneh Yisrael explain, this division is a very ancient minhag*. Our leader, the master of Chabad*, strengthened and disseminated it. I hope that only your letters are lacking, but that, concretely, you do indeed take part in all these studies.
Likewise, a superficial reading of your letter seems to indicate that your participation in these studies has been weakened because of your state of health. I hope this has not been the case. For Chazal* emphasize that one who has a headache must redouble his ardor in the study of Torah. For if Torah is compared to nourishment — to a food — it likewise brings refuah* to the world.
With a Yid*, the material and the spiritual go hand in hand. Thus, a physical weakening is a sign of what is happening morally. There must therefore be a spiritual refuah* — that is, an addition to Torah study. It is in this way that one puts into practice the precept "tamim tihyeh im Hashem Elokecha*" — materially and spiritually, as the Likkutei Torah* explains regarding this verse (Nitzavim 45, 3).
It is surely unnecessary to specify to you that you must show generosity to others, drawing them too toward Chassidus*, its practices and its ways. May Hashem grant you success in all this.
With my blessing for a kosher and freilichen* Pesach*,
