To the distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem, Rav Yitzchak Taksin,
Greetings and blessing,
I was pleased to have news of you from the Rav, the distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Shlomo Zalman Hecht of Chicago. He likewise writes to me that on Pesach* your son Yosef will be three years old. You ask me when his upsherenish* should take place.
According to halachah*, it may take place during Chol HaMo'ed* Pesach* (see letter no. 2586). Nevertheless, if one considers the Yiddishe* minhag*, in particular the one observed in our Holy Land — which will be rebuilt and restored — this upsherenish* must be done on Lag BaOmer*.
In my opinion, then, you will do it on this date, with all the customary practices, according to the excerpt I enclose for you of a teaching of my father-in-law the Rebbe, whose merit shall protect us (see letter no. 1233).
May Hashem grant, to you and your wife, the merit and the success to raise him to Torah, to chuppah*, and to ma'asim tovim*, in good health, earning your livelihood amply, with sincerity and true simchah*.
