Greetings and blessing,

I received with consternation your letter of 3 Adar Sheni, in which you tell me of the state of health of that person who has already been hospitalized for six weeks. It would be necessary to convey to her that the faith of every Jewish man and Jewish woman leads one to think that Hashem is the sole Master of the universe and of all it contains, including this material world, every man and every woman who is in it.

Hashem is the Essence of good and He desires to grant all the good to each man and each woman, which also includes physical health, which is essential, as the Rambam* explains in his Hilchos De'os*, end of chapter 3 and beginning of chapter 4 (see also letter no. 2510).

You also know the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov* (see letter no. 2475) commenting on the verse "when you see the donkey of your enemy… azov ta'azov imo*." All this has been explained in the chassidic maamar* of 10 Shevat 5713 (1953, delivered by the Rebbe on the occasion of the hilula* of the previous Rebbe).

When one not only knows but, in addition, feels all this, one can implant it in one's soul with profound calm, which brings about an immediate improvement in health and a speedy refuah*.

May Hashem grant that you can announce to me good tidings concerning all this. May He grant that this be very speedily.

I have written directly to her — to the patient — all that I have just told you. Nevertheless, you have been the messenger to inform me of all this. You will therefore know how to explain to her precisely my response.

שלום וברכה!

נבהלתי לקבלת מכתבו מג' אדר שני בו כותב מצב בריאות... תחי' שכבר ששה שבועות שנמצאת בבית החולים. וצריך הי' למסור לה שהאמונה פשוטה דכל איש ואשה הישראלים מכריחה האמונה ג"כ אשר רק הקב"ה הוא בעל הבית היחידי של כל העולם ומלואו אשר גם בעולם הזה הגשמי ואיש ואשה הפרטיים בכלל זה. וכיון שהשי"ת הוא עצם הטוב בודאי רוצה לתת אך טוב וחסד לכל אחד ואחת אשר בריאות הגוף הוא אחד העיקרים בזה וכמבואר ברמב"ם הלכות דיעות סוף פ"ג וריש פ"ד. וידוע ג"כ תורת הבעש"ט על הפסוק כי תראה חמור שנאך רובץ תחת משאו וגו' עזב תעזב עמו, ונתבאר במאמר דיו"ד שבט תשי"ג. וכשמרגישים (לא רק יודעים) את כל הנ"ל במילא נחדרת הנפש בשקט פנימי המביא אחריו הטבה מידית בבריאות ורפואה קרובה.

והשי"ת יצליח את כת"ר שי' לבשר טוב בכל הנ"ל, ויה"ר שיהי' זה בהקדם האפשרי.

ואף שכתבתי לה בפ"ע כנ"ל, הנה כיון שכת"ר הי' שליח להודיע את הנ"ל בודאי יסביר לה בתוספת ביאור גם המענה שלי.

המחכה לבשו"ט ובברכת פורים שמח לאחותו ולכת"ר וכל ב"ב שיחיו.
