Concerning the worldwide Tehillim* association (see the introduction to Igros Kodesh of the Frierdiker Rebbe, vol. 6, pp. 10-11), it is difficult to envisage new expenses, for various reasons. Nevertheless, inasmuch as my father-in-law the Rebbe, whose merit shall protect us, attached particular importance to this activity, you will surely find a way to continue it with a minimum of expense and to recite Tehillim* at least twice a week.

The minhag* of Yerushalayim* is that those who devote themselves to learning are divided among several institutions and several yeshivos*. It is therefore fitting that those who study Chassidus* in our yeshivos* and our institutions also participate in the recital of Tehillim*. On the one hand, this will reduce expenses. On the other hand, the tefillah* of one who devotes himself to the inner part of Torah is more readily answered. I await joyous tidings from you in this matter.

As you requested, you have been sent, free of charge, a Tehillim* with the commentary of the Tzemach Tzedek* and a Tanya*. You will surely confirm having received them.

As for the Chabad* shul that has been founded in the Sha'arei Chesed neighborhood of Yerushalayim*, it is clear that a shiur* in Chassidus* must be instituted there immediately, in addition to the one on the revealed part of the Torah. For even though tefillah* according to the nusach* of the Arizal* and of the Alter Rebbe* is very important, it is said "ohev Hashem sha'arei Tziyon" — Hashem loves the gates of Tziyon — and, in accordance with the interpretation of Chazal* (linking sha'ar — "gate" — to shiur, "study"), one must therefore make of it a place of Torah.

... בהנוגע לחברה תהלים העולמית, הנה מפני כמה טעמים קשה להכנס בהוצאות חדשות. אבל בכ"ז כיוון שכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע הי' חביב עליו ענין זה ביותר, בטח ימצא אופן להמשיכו במינימום של הוצאות ושיאמר תהלים עכ"פ פעמים בשבוע.

ובודאי ע"פ מנהג ירושלים עיה"ק שכל אחד מחובשי בית המדרש יש לו כמה ענינים וישיבות, הרי בטח גם בהנ"ל יש לצרף לאמירת תהלים הנ"ל את אלו הלומדים דא"ח בישיבותינו ומוסדותנו, שמלבד שיוקטנו עי"ז ההוצאות, הנה העיקר שהעוסק בפנימיות התורה הרי גם תפלתו מתקבלת יותר. ואחכה לידיעות משמחות מכת"ר שי' בזה.

כבקשתו נשלח לו מתנה תהלים עם פי' הצ"צ וכן התניא, ובודאי יאשר קבלתם...

בהנוגע ליסוד ביהכ"נ של חב"ד בשכונת שערי חסד... מובן אשר תומ"י צריך לקבוע ג"כ שיעורי דא"ח נוסף על השיעורים בתורת הנגלה בבית הכנסת זו, כי אף שגדול ערך התפלה בנוסח אר"י ורבינו הזקן, אבל אוהב ה' שערי ציון וכדרז"ל שצ"ל ג"כ מקום תורה...
