Blessing and greetings — this letter is addressed to a woman —

I was distressed to learn that you have not been in good health for several weeks. I hope that by the time the present letter reaches you, you will be feeling better and will be able to let me know. For it is preferable to perform a mitzvah* oneself rather than to delegate someone else to do it. And, in the words of the Rambam*, "having a healthy body is among the ways of Hashem."

The pure faith of every Jewish man and Jewish woman likewise includes the belief that Hashem is the sole Master of the universe and of all it contains — of the material world, of every man and of every woman. Hashem is the Essence of good, and He desires to bestow only good upon each man and each woman.

Now, physical health is decisive in this matter, as the Rambam* explains in his Hilchos De'os*, end of chapter 3 and beginning of chapter 4 [1]. You also know the explanation given by the Baal Shem Tov* [2] of the verse "when you see the donkey of your enemy lying under its burden… azov ta'azov imo*." All this is explained in the chassidic maamar* of 10 Shevat 5713 — 1953, delivered by the Rebbe on the occasion of the hilula* of the previous Rebbe [3].

When one not only knows but, in addition, feels all this, one can implant it in one's soul with inner calm, which will bring about an immediate improvement in health and a speedy refuah*.

May Hashem grant that you can give me good tidings in all these matters. May He grant that this be very speedily.

ברכה ושלום!

נבהלתי להידיעה אשר מצב בריאותה אינו כדבעי זה משך שבועות. ותקותי שלעת קבלת מכתבי זה כבר הוטב מצבה ותוכל להודיע עד"ז בעצמה, כי הרי בכל עניני מצות, מצוה בו יותר מבשלוחו, והיות הגוף בריא ושלם מדרכי השם הוא.

האמונה הפשוטה דכל איש ואשה הישראלים מכריחה להאמין גם כן אשר רק הקב"ה הוא בעל הבית היחידי של כל העולם ומלואו אשר גם עולם הזה הגשמי ואיש ואשה הפרטיים בכלל זה, וכיון שהשי"ת הוא עצם הטוב בודאי רוצה לתת אך טוב וחסד לכל אחד ואחת, אשר בריאות הגוף הוא אחד העיקרים בזה, וכמבואר ברמב"ם הלכות דיעות סוף פרק ג' וריש פרק ד'. וידועה ג"כ תורת הבעש"ט על הפסוק כי תראה חמור שונאך רובץ תחת משאו וגו' עזב תעזב עמו, ונתבאר במאמר דיו"ד שבט תשי"ג.

וכשמרגישים (לא רק יודעים) את כל הנ"ל במילא נחדרת הנפש בשקט פנימי המביא אחריו הטבה מיידית בבריאות ורפואה קרובה. והשי"ת יצליחה לבשר טוב בכל הנ"ל, ויה"ר שיהי' זה בהקדים האפשרי.
