To the Rav, the distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yosef [1] the shochet*,

Greetings and blessing,

I duly received your letter of 2 Adar Sheni. I am surprised that you make no mention of what I have learned from another source — namely, your appointment as president of Agudas Yisrael* of Cincinnati. If this is indeed so, you now have expanded means with which to act in your city for everything pertaining to Torah and mitzvos* in general, and to Chassidus*, its ways and its customs, in particular.

The means of action differ from one place to another, but everywhere it is possible to discover them and to convey Chassidus* in that place to all those who reside there. Commenting on the verse "tzedakah* teromem goy" — including when it is spiritual — the Alter Rebbe* assures us that all the parts of the soul receive this elevation, as is stated at the beginning of Torah Or* [2].

To be sure, this refers to material tzedakah*, but one may infer that the same is true when it is spiritual. The latter therefore enables one to obtain increased blessing and success in being able to educate one's children.

I shall read the request for blessing contained in your letter at the holy tziyun* of my father-in-law the Rebbe, whose merit shall protect us. Hashem will grant you success and you will be able to convey good tidings in all these matters.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מב' אדר שני... ולפלא שאינו מזכיר ע"ד הידיעה שהגיע אלי שנבחר ליו"ר אגודת ישראל בסינסינעטי. ואם אמת הדבר הרי בטח עי"ז נתגדלה אפשריותו לפעול במחנו הט' בעניני תורה ומצות בכלל ובעניני תורת החסידות הדרכותי' ומנהגי' בפרט. ואף כי האופנים משתנים ממקום למקום אבל בכל מקום ומקום ישנם אופנים מתאימים אשר על ידם תחדור תורת החסידות וכו' אל המקום ולדרים עליו. ומובטח רבינו הזקן שפי' בענין צדקה תרומם גוי, שזה מרומם את כל המדריגות שבנפש כמבואר בתורה אור בתחלתו. ואף כי שם מדובר בענין צדקה גשמית ה"ז בנין אב גם לצדקה רוחנית ובמילא ממשיך זה ג"כ תוספת ברכה והצלחה בנוגע לחנוך הבנים.

הפ"נ המוסגר במכתבו אקראהו בעת רצון על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בכל הנ"ל.
