B"H,

2 Adar Sheni 5714,

Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessings,

I reply to your letter of Wednesday of parshas Pekudei. As far as possible, you should stop thinking about the failures to which you allude, and increase the words of Torah and tefillah*.

Moreover, you will strive to serve Hashem with simchah*, to exert a positive influence on your friends, so that they draw still closer to Hashem's Torah and His service, by being permeated with ahavas Yisrael*.

To achieve such a result, your body must be in good health and not prevent you from serving Hashem, as the Rambam* explains at the end of chapter 3 and the beginning of chapter 4 of Hilchos Yesodei HaTorah*.

To arrive at this in the proper way, it is essential to learn pnimiyus haTorah*, that is, the teaching of chassidus*.

Obviously, one must conform to the pasuk* 'ashalchenu me'at me'at*' — 'I will drive him out little by little' — especially when it concerns bad habits adopted long ago. One must daven that they diminish and then disappear, at least progressively.

May Hashem grant you success, so that you can give me good news in all these areas.

With my blessing,
