To the distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Yehudah Leib[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter of 3/5 and I am surprised that you say nothing in it about your positive achievements in spreading Torah and Yiddishkeit* in your surroundings. For you surely act in this direction, in accordance with the teaching of Chazal* that 'chazakah shaliach oseh shlichuso*.' Now, every Yid* is the shliach* of the Adam haElyon*[2] Who sits on the supernal Throne, as the Likkutei Torah explains at the beginning of parshas Vayikra.

Obviously, to carry through this shlichus, one must face obstacles, difficulties inherent to the world and to the specific portion of it allotted to each one[3]. Nevertheless, Chazal give us a good piece of advice on this. They say that 'simchah poretz geder*' — joy breaks limits — particularly the joy of a mitzvah*, whether it be a mitzvah in the literal sense or a teaching of general scope which is a great principle of the Torah, 'bechol derachecha da'ehu*.'

To all this applies what the Rambam* says at the end of the laws of lulav* concerning simchah*[4]. And these days of Adar are particularly favorable for all this, since 'mishenichnas Adar marbim besimchah*.' Moreover, this year has two months of Adar, and one therefore adopts the most stringent view cited in the Shulchan Aruch* chapter 568 paragraph 7, according to which one increases simchah in both the first and the second.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מ 5/3. ולפלא שבמכתבו אינו מזכיר דבר אודות פעולותיו הטובות בהפצת התורה והיהדות בסביבתו אשר בטח עושה בזה מתאים לפסק רז"ל, חזקה שליח עושה שליחותו, וכאו"א מישראל ה"ה שלוחו של אדם העליון שעל הכסא כביכול, וכמבואר בלקו"ת ריש פ' ויקרא.

מובן אשר במילוי שליחות זו ישנם כמה מניעות ועכובים מגדרו של העולם וחלקו הפרטי של כאו"א. אבל הרי זוהי עצה היעוצה מרז"ל בזה אשר שמחה פורץ גדר, שמחה של מצוה, הן במצות ממש והן בההוראה הכללית שהוא כלל גדול בתורה דבכל דרכיך דעהו ואשר עכ"ז חל מ"ש הרמב"ם בסוף הל' לולב בענין השמחה. ומסוגלים לענין זה בפרט ימים אלו ימי אדר דמרבין בשמחה ובפרט בשנה מעוברת שמחמירים (כפסק השו"ע סי' תקס"ח סעיף ז') להרבות בשמחה הן באד"ר והן באדר ב'.
