To the rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Yehoshua[1],

Greetings and blessings,

You let me know that 29 Adar — the day on which one increases joy, erev Rosh Chodesh Adar Sheni, on which one also increases joy — is the date on which you begin the baking of matzos*.

May Hashem grant that there be fulfilled in you the comment of Chazal* on the pasuk*: 'Ushmartem es hamatzos*'[2] — they read it as 'ushmartem es hamitzvos*' (you shall guard the mitzvos). In this way, you will have material success and earn your livelihood amply.

What one draws[3] spiritually is preserved for the rest of the year, and there will therefore be a good beginning here, so that you may earn your livelihood as is fitting throughout the year.

Thus, the 'lechem oni*'[4] will bring you white bread, in the literal sense and as chassidus* explains. You will see on this Zohar*, vol. 1, page 47b; vol. 2, page 246a; and Likkutei Torah, parshas Eikev, page 16a.

במענה על הודעתו אשר ביום כ"ט אדר א' שמרבין בשמחה הוא ערב ר"ח אדר שני שמרבין בשמחה מתחיל באפיית המצות.

הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שיקוים בו ושמרתם את המצות וכדרשת רז"ל שבמילא תומשך ג"כ הצלחה בגשמיות שתביא פרנסה בהרחבה. וכשם שברוחניות הרי ממשיכים מזה על כל השנה כולה. הרי יהי' זה ג"כ התחלה טובה לפרנסה כדבעי ג"כ על כל השנה כולה.

ומלחם עוני יבוא ללחם פנג. כפשוטו וכפירושו בתורת הדא"ח (עיין זהר ח"א מז, ב. רמו, א. לקו"ת עקב טז, א).
