Greetings and blessings,

I reply to your letter of 8 Adar Rishon, in which you ask my opinion on the following question. For various reasons, you are absolutely incapable of concentrating on the study of the revealed part of the Torah and of chassidus*. You therefore ask me what you should do.

Here is my reply:

A) I do not understand your statement that 'you are absolutely incapable of concentrating on study.' This contradicts the following teaching of Chazal*: 'He who tells you he has not labored and has nevertheless succeeded — do not believe him. He who tells you he has labored but has not succeeded — do not believe him.'

But perhaps you mean that you do not wish to learn Torah.

B) In any event, you must seek the counsel of your spiritual mentor on the spot. You will explain your situation to him and Hashem will grant you the success of finding the arrangement that suits you, materially and spiritually at once.

במענה על מכתבו מח' אד"ר בו שואל חוות דעתי אשר כיון שבשום אופן אינו יכול להכניס דעתו בלימוד תורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות מפני סיבות שונות. הנה באיזה אופן עליו להסתדר עתה.

הנה א) איני מבין מה שכותב שאינו יכול בשום אופן שהוא היפך מרז"ל לא יגעת ומצאת אל תאמין יגעת ולא מצאת אל תאמין, ואפשר כוונתו שאינו רוצה, ב) בכל אופן עליו להתייעץ בזה עם המשפיע שלו על אתר שהוא נמצא אתו ויפרש לפניו את שיחתו והשי"ת יצליחו לסדר עצמו באופן המתאים לפניו בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
