Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter, which was undated. You tell me that you continue your studies at the yeshivah* for half the day, and that you waste the other half on preparations and secular studies. It is painful and grievous to find that a young man is wasting his time and maintaining such a practice, when lost time cannot be made up.

For each one receives a limited number of years — those that are necessary for him to bring to fruition, in the most effective manner, the mission which HaKadosh-Baruch-Hu* entrusts to him during his life of long days and good years.

It would be well for you to continue your studies at the yeshivah in Lod, which does not have the disadvantage of being located in the center of the city. There you will find again the environment you knew in France. Thus you will have an increased berachah* and success, including in your private life.

Moreover, every person has the duty to influence his surroundings positively. Now, time passes in vain, and you must therefore put all this into practice as quickly as possible. May Hashem grant you success. May He suggest to you a pure yiras-Shamayim* and success in the study of nigleh*, of chassidus*, and in the practice of mitzvos in the proper manner.

As you requested, you have been sent in a separate package some sichos* and some kuntreisim*, which you will study while waiting to go to the yeshivah in Lod. You will also contact the rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Azriel Zelig Slonim of Yerushalayim, and you will show him the present letter. He will find one or several persons who can study these texts with you. Thus you will be able to bond with good friends.

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו (בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה) אף כי כותב אשר חצי היום למד בישיבה וחצי השני מבזבז על הכנות ולימודי חול, ומובן הכאב והצער על אשר בחור ואברך יודע שמבזבז זמנו ואעפ"כ ממשיך בהנהגה זו בה בשעה שהזמן הוא אבידה שאינה חוזרת ומספר השנים שניתנו לאדם הם מצומצמים כפי הדרוש לו למלאות שליחותו של הקב"ה למשך ימי חייו באריכות ימים ושנים טובות ובאופן טוב ומועיל.

ומהנכון הי' שילמוד בישיבת לוד אשר שם אין הענין דישיבת כרכים שהיא קשה ושם יוכל להמשיך באותה סביבה שהתחיל בהיותו בצרפת ואשר זה ימשיך לו תוספת ברכה והצלחה גם בחייו בתור פרט נוסף על זה שכאו"א יש לו תפקיד לפעול על הסביבה וכיון שהזמן הולך ואובד הנה ההקדם בזה ישובח. והשי"ת יצליחו ויתן בלבו יראת שמים טהורה והצלחה בלימוד בתורת הנגלה ובתורת החסידות וקיום המצות כדבעי.

כבקשתו נשלח לו בחבילה בפ"ע איזה שיחות וקונטרסי' ועד שיסע ללמד בישיבת לוד הנה יבוא בקישור עם הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ וכו' מוה"ר עזריאל זליג שי' סלונים בירושלים ויראה לו מכתבי זה ובמילא ימצא בשבילו חברותא או חברים אחדים שיוכל ללמוד עמהם ביחד את הנ"ל וכן שיהי' לו דיבוק חברים טובים.
