Greetings and blessings,

I received some time ago your letter in which you express your fervent wish, and that of your wife, your desire to have a child. When I go to the holy tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, may his merit protect us, I will mention your names for this.

You know the letter[1] of the Alter Rebbe according to which, in order to have children, one must experience the love and the fear of Hashem, for these sentiments are called 'the son and the daughter' in the spiritual dimension. This letter is printed in full at the end of Siddur Me'ah She'arim. Consequently, you should set yourself an additional study of chassidus*.

Obviously, one must follow the prescriptions of the doctors, for every event must travel along natural channels. Likewise, your wife will give a few coins to tzedakah* before lighting the candles on erev Shabbos* and yom tov*. And you will have your mezuzos* and your tefillin* checked once again.

Furthermore, it should be examined whether, in marrying, you may not in some way have wronged a Jewish man or a Jewish woman[2].

May Hashem grant that you announce good news to me. You will tell me that your wife is expecting a child, and, in accordance with the instruction of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, she will not make her condition known to her relatives[3] before the beginning of the fifth month of her pregnancy. It is in such a case[4] that one can speak of dissemination. But it is clear that she may tell yourself and her attending doctor.

Hashem will grant you success.

זה מזמן שנתקבל מכתבו בו מביע משאלות לבבם לטובה שלו ושל זוגתו תחי' להתברך בזחו"ק וכשאהי' על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אזכירם להנ"ל.

והנה ידוע מכתבו של רבינו הזקן אשר סגולה להולדת בנים הוא הענין דאהבה ויראה אשר אהבתו ויראתו ית' נקראים בשם בן ובת ברוחניות וכנדפס מכתב זה בארוכה בסידור מאה שערים בסופו ובמילא צריך הוא לקבוע שיעור לימוד נוסף בתורת החסידות.

מובן שצריך לשמור הוראות הרופאים כיון שלכל דבר צ"ל אחיזה בדרכי הטבע, וכן שזוגתו תחי' תתן איזה פרוטות לצדקה קודם הדלקת הנרות בכל עש"ק וערב יום טוב וכן יבדקו עוד הפעם את המזוזות והתפילין שלו, כן הי' מהנכון לברר אם בהשידוך שלהם לא נגעו מעין פגיעה בכבוד של בן או בת ישראל.

והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב אשר נפקדה זוגתו תחי' ובטח כהוראת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר לא תפרסם לקרובי' מזה עד שתכנס לחדש החמישי להריונה, במלת פרסום הכוונה רק באופן הנ"ל אבל מובן שתספר לו וכן להרופא המטפל בזה וכו' והשי"ת יצליחם.
