Greetings and blessings,

I reply to your letter of 21 Shevat, in which you raise the name that is to be given to your young grandchild. It was chosen by your daughter's mother-in-law.

In accordance with our holy seforim*, the name of a newborn child is to be given by his father and mother.

Obviously, the parents may entrust this task to whomever they see fit. If, in the present case, this was not done so, your daughter and your son-in-law must consult together and reach an agreement on the name their child is to bear.

A berachah* has already been pronounced to assign a name to the child. It must therefore not be removed from him, chas veshalom*. On the other hand, it is possible to add a second one.

May Hashem grant you yiddishe nachas* from all yours, in breadth of mind.
