To the great rav, tzaddik* and distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,

of an illustrious family, Rav Yechiel[1] shlita*,

Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter announcing good news — that of the engagement of your daughter Chava Yehudis. The wedding has been set for the first day of Rosh Chodesh Adar Rishon.

May Hashem grant you a mazel tov, mazel tov, in a good and fruitful moment. May the couple build an everlasting edifice based on Torah and mitzvos*, as illuminated by the luminary of the Torah — that is, the teaching of chassidus*. You yourself and your wife, the rebbetzin*, will derive from them much chassidic* nachas*.

With my respects and my blessing of mazel tov, mazel tov,

You know the statement of Chazal* that "from the beginning of Adar[2], one increases joy." The Magen Avraham takes this as halachah* in ch.686 §5. You will also consult the Responsa of the Chasam Sofer, Orach Chaim section, ch.160, and the Nimukei Orach Chaim at the same reference, by the author of the Minchas Elazar. Now, according to the Rema, Orach Chaim ch.568 §7, this refers to Adar Rishon[3].

Consequently, according to the Responsa of the Geonim and of the Maharitz Giat, cited in the Tur Orach Chaim ch.420, and the references cited by the Sdei Chemed, Pe'as HaSadeh, klalim §82, there are here[4] three established reasons for joy: the month of Adar, Rosh Chodesh, and the joy of the bride and groom. This established fact will therefore continue afterward.
