To the rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Ben Tzion[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I read with pleasure, in your letter, what you have done to organize the Mesibos Shabbos*[2]. You also report to me the view of one person who considers that those who volunteered for this activity are discouraged. You should meet with this person — which, generally, is a positive step — and explain to him what is involved[3], specifying what the Alter Rebbe* says at the beginning of Torah Or on the verse "Tzedakah* uplifts a nation."

Thus, those who undertake such activity will see their yiras Shamayim* strengthened, and will know greater success in their study. Furthermore, we have been able to verify concretely here that those who took part in such activities have known success incomparably with their hasmadah* in study.

You will therefore speak amicably with this person, and you will surely succeed in convincing him. Obviously, you must retain responsibility for this activity, so that its content is not distorted.

נהניתי לקרות במכ' ע"ד העבודה בסידור מסיבות שבת, ומה שלפי דעת מר...

מחליש אלו שהתנדבו לעבודה זו, צריך הי' להתראות אתו (אשר בכלל נכון הוא) ולהסביר לו כל הענין בתוספת מה שכותב רבינו הזקן בתו"א בתחלתו בענין צדקה תרומם גוי, שזהו תועלת להעובדים בהיראת שמים שלהם ואפילו בקליטת לימודיהם כדבעי, נוסף על מה שראינו במוחש כאן שאלו שהתעסקו בעבודות כמו אלו נתעלו שלא לפי ערך גם בהתמדה בלימודם, וכשידבר עם הנ"ל בנעימות, הרי בטח יפעול זה, ומובן אשר צ"ל זהיר אז די זאך זאל בלייבען ביד כת"ר שי' ובמילא יהיו בטוחים שתשמר הנקודה...
