Igrot Kodesh · Letter 2418 — Shidduchim

Volume 8 · Letter 173

B"H,

20 Shevat 5714,

Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessings,

You ask me, in your letter, to answer you clearly. The conduct that should be adopted in such a case is well known, and I was able to verify concretely that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, refrained from saying "no" when a shidduch* was proposed to him. It is clear that he did not wish to bind his name to a rupture.

Furthermore, as I wrote to your son, the situation can evolve in various ways during the time needed for the exchange of letters. Consequently, you will seek the advice of your relatives and of the other chassidim* who are aware of this matter.

May Hashem suggest the right idea to those who advise you, that you may be able to make a decision.

Awaiting your good news on all these points,
