Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of the day of the hilula*[1] of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, may his merit protect us. As you have asked me, I shall read it, at a propitious moment, near his holy tziyun*.

I am surprised that you say nothing of the positive activities you are conducting among the talmidim* of the yeshivah, which was founded and directed by the one whose hilula* we celebrate. For the shepherd has not abandoned his flock. He protects each one and, in particular, the institutions for which he gave himself in mesirus nefesh*, against those who oppose them, and likewise comes to the aid of those who help them.

The tzaddik* who departs this world is present here more than during his lifetime, as Iggeres HaKodesh* of the Alter Rebbe* and its commentary explain at length. But "tzaddikim* are in the image of their Creator," and their first approach is therefore one of kindness. Perhaps in this way the divine soul can rise up against those who oppose chassidus* and its leader, my father-in-law, the Rebbe. In this way, the animal soul will be shattered with thunder and wrath.

The Alter Rebbe* explains in chapter 29 of Tanya*: "One must say to it[2]: 'You are evil, wicked, perverted, repugnant,' with all the qualifiers Chazal* attribute to it. For indeed, until when will you hide from me the light of Hashem Who fills the worlds — Who is, was, and will be in identical fashion in the place where I find myself? But you are debauched enough to deny the truth which is yet self-evident: that there is nothing other than Him."

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מיום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אשר כבקשתו אקראהו בעת רצון על הציון הק' שלו.

ולפלא שאינו מזכיר מאומה אודות פעולותיו הטובות בתלמידי ישיבת... אשר בעל ההילולא הי' ממיסדי' ומנהלי' ולא עזב הרועה את צאן מרעיתו להגן עליהם - ובפרט על מוסדות הק' שמסר נפשו עליהם - מכל הקמים עליהם והמסייעים בידיהם וצדיק דאתפטר אשתכח בהאי עלמא יתיר מבחיוהי וכמבואר בארוכה ובאגה"ק אשר לרבינו הזקן וביאורו, אלא שצדיקים דומים לבוראם הרי מתחלה מתחילים בדרכים של חסד וכו' וכולי האי ואולי תתגבר הנפה"א של הקם על תורת דא"ח ונשיאה הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר ותשבור את הנה"ב בקול רעש ורוגז, וכלשון רבנו הזקן בתניא פכ"ט: לומר לו אתה רע ורשע ומשוקץ ומתועב ומנוול וכו' ככל השמות שקראו לו חכמינו ז"ל באמת עד מתי תסתיר לפני אור א"ס ב"ה הממכ"ע הי' הוה ויהי' בשוה גם במקום זה שאני עליו כו' ואתה מנוול וכו' מכחיש האמת הנראה לעינים דכולא קמי' כלא ממש וכו'...
