Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of Rosh Chodesh Shevat. I was appalled to learn, on reading it, that some years ago you uttered words which contravened the respect due to my father-in-law, the Rebbe, may his merit protect us, who is the leader of Yisrael.

You ask me how to repair this — after, of course, you have sincerely regretted what occurred. First of all, you must respect his rulings, to which he has precisely alluded. You must yourself adopt his practices and strive to convince those around you to do likewise — to study the teachings of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, and to adopt his customs.

His rulings are, in particular, the study of Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*. You must convince at least ten persons to study his teachings and to observe his rulings. In this way his lips will whisper, in this world and in the next at the same time. As Chazal* confirm, you will thereby be able to atone for the terrible sin previously mentioned.

במענה על מכתבו מר"ח שבט. נבהלתי לקרות בו אשר באיזה שנים לפנים נמלטו מפיו מלים הפוגעים בכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע נשיא ישראל. ומ"ש אודות התיקון בזה, מובן שבטח כוונתו לאחרי החרטה גמורה מכל וכל, הנה לכל לראש נוסף על שמירת התקנות הנ"ל והליכה באורחותיו לעצמו עליו להשתדל להשפיע בסביבתו שיתחילו ללמוד תורתו של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר וללכת באורחותיו, ותקנותיו בשיעורי חומש תהלים ותניא בפרט, וכשישפיע לכל הפחות על עשרה אנשים שילמדו תורתו וישמרו תקנותיו הרי הנחת רוח דשפתותיו דובבות בשני עולמים וכפסק רז"ל יכפר על ענין מבהיל הנ"ל. והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב.
