Greetings and blessings,
I have duly received your letter of 3 Shevat. When I find myself near the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, may his merit protect us, I shall mention your name, that you may have a speedy refuah*.
You conclude your letter by responding to what I asked you. I clearly indicated, in my letter — which you reproduce in yours — why this information was useful to me[1]. The matter is one of exercising a salutary influence[2]. You yourself say that one feels embarrassment toward you in various areas[3]. This confirms what is, in any case, self-evident. The heart of Yisrael is awake to Hashem and likewise to His commandments[4]. Yet one must find a way to approach the matter, an opening[5]. For this you must use the time you still have to spend with them in order to speak with them gradually.
May Hashem grant you success. May He enable you to put into practice the words of the verse: "I will drive him[6] out little by little." You will drive out the evil that is in your environment. You surely possess the strength for this, since you are on the spot. As various seforim* establish, it is virtually certain that this accomplishment will be the channel through which you will obtain physical refuah*. May Hashem grant you success.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מיום ג' שבט, וכשאהי' על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אזכירו לרפואה קרובה.
מסיים במכתבו במענה על מה שבקשתיו להוודע מהות אנשי סביבתו ולהשפיע עליהם, שנמצאים כאן בערך חמשים איש אבל רובם עדיין אינם שומרי תורה ומצוה כו' ודבוריהם הם בטח ע"ח היסורים שמגיע לו.
והנה נפלאתי על המסקנא שלו, ובפרט שברור כתבתי - וכמו שמעתיק גם במכתבו - שהידיעה אודותם ומהותם הוא כדי להשפיע עליהם, וכיון שבעצמו כותב שמתביישים ממנו באיזה ענינים ה"ז הוכחה גמורה על דבר שצריך למצוא הגישה באיזה אופן להכנס עמהם בדברים, ובמילא עליו לנצל את הזמן שעדיין נמצא עמהם לדבר עמהם מהקל אל הכבד.
ויה"ר שהשי"ת יצליחו שיקיים האמור לאט לאט אגרשנו לגרש את הרע הנמצא בסביבתו, וכיון שנזדמן לשם הרי בטח ניתנו לו הכחות לעבודה זו, וע"פ המובא בכמה ספרים קרוב [ל]ודאי לאמר שזהו ג"כ הצנור להבראתו בגשמיות, והשי"ת יצליחו.
