Greetings and blessings,

I have seen the letter you addressed to my secretariat, in which you express astonishment that I do not write to you. I have already told you many times that there is no manifestation of resentment whatsoever on my part, but that, due to my many occupations, I answer letters in order, and this can take time.

Furthermore, priority is accorded to letters bearing on concrete action — particularly those of persons who do not yet find themselves within the four cubits of Chabad chassidus*. For answering them is a means of drawing them toward the study of chassidus* and the adoption of its practices.

You must not therefore be distressed at the fact that I do not write to you. What matters is only that one know here what is happening in our world, and that one know it in detail. Consequently, you must write regularly — which is useful regarding the points you report, and very often also regarding the other points which, in the end, are all the concerns of Chabad.

All these activities are therefore bound to one another. The success and development of each will produce its effect, both within and without. This allows you to understand what I said in my letter — which you must have received some time ago — in which I expressed surprise at not having your news.

The chassidic* maamar* delivered on the day of the hilula* last year has already been sent to you and you have surely received it. May Hashem grant that it be useful for the one who delivers it, those who hear it, and those who study it afterwards.

ראיתי את מכתבו להמזכירות בו שואל לסיבת העדר המכתבים. והנה כבר כתבתי כ"פ שאין כאן שום ענין של קפידא וכו' אלא שמפני רוב הטרדות המענות לאנשים הנה עד שבא התור מכל מכ' ומכתב נתארך זמן רב, וגם אחרי כן יש קדימה למענה על מכתבים שקשורים ונוגעים למעשה בפועל ובפרט של אלו שעדיין אינם בפנים ד' אמות של חסידי חב"ד שהמענה להם ג"כ ענין למשכם ללימוד תורת החסידות וללכת במנהגי' והדרכותי', ובמילא מובן אשר אין להתחשב עם העדר המכתבים ממני, וכיון שכאן נוגע לדעת על כל המתרחש בעולמנו ובפרטיות, הנה המכתבים מהם צריכים להיות תמידים כסדרם ויש בזה תועלת הן להענינים שעליהם כותבים ולפעמים רבות גם לשאר הענינים כי סו"ס הרי כל עניני חב"ד ידוע לכל שהם שייכים וקשורים זב"ז והצלחה והגדלה של אחד מהם עושה רושם הן מבפנים והן כלפי חוץ ובזה מבואר ג"כ מכתבי...

שבטח נתקבל מכבר שתמה אני על העדר מכתבים מהם וכו'.
