To the leaders of the youth of the Chabad association

in the holy city of Yerushalayim,

may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

A) For good order, I confirm having duly received your letters of 5 and 14 Tishrei, 17 and 19 Cheshvan, and 17 Kislev, which reached me with delay.

I am surprised that you reduce your letters to such a degree, that there is such a long interruption between one and the other.

B) I am surprised by the feeling of discouragement, in the face of the difficulties encountered, which your letter betrays. Indeed, this has been so since the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash*. All that concerns kedushah* undergoes concealment, particularly with regard to the Holy Land. The Ramban* writes it, in his letter from the Holy Land, according to which "the holier one is, the more one undergoes destruction."

Taking awareness of all this should therefore awaken more intense and deeper forces. Indeed, "Hashem is testing you to know…" [1], as the Likkutei Torah explains, emphasizing that menasseh, "tests," is of the same etymology as nes, "miracle." It is thus that one arrives at the true, most elevated perception.

C) No doubt you continue with energy what is your mission — that of guiding the youth who, for the moment, are not yet Chabad — not only those who come from chassidic families, but also others.

Indeed, you know the saying [2] of the Alter Rebbe* according to which chassidus* is addressed to the entire Jewish people and not only to a group. It is said that "the tzaddik* decides and the Holy One, blessed be He, ratifies." Happy therefore are those who take part in this work and thus hasten the true and complete redemption. When the wellsprings [3] spread outward, our redeemer, our righteous Moshiach*, will come and deliver us from all the concealments and all the obstacles. He will transform the world through the kingship of Hashem. Then, "for all the children of Yisrael*, the light of Hashem will shine," and one will enjoy heavenly delight.

The chassidic maamarim* of Pesach, which are printed in Sefer HaMaamarim 5709 [4], explain what this heavenly delight is.

D) No doubt you will describe to me what you accomplished on 19 Kislev [5], on Yud Shevat* [6], and in the intermediate period.

If a certain yeshivah* wishes to receive, for its library, seforim* published by Kehot, it must turn directly here, to the leadership of Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch.

מפני הסדר הנני מאשר בזה קבלת מכתביהם מה' וי"ד תשרי, י"ז י"ט חשון וי"ז כסלו, אשר נתקבלו באיחור זמן, ולפלא שמקמצים כ"כ במכתבים וההפסק בין מכתב למכתב ארוך ביותר.

ב) נפלאתי על אשר ניכר במכ' הרגש של נפילת רוח מהקישויים שפוגשים בעבודתם, שהרי זהו המצב מעת חורבן ביהמ"ק שלכל דבר שבקדושה ישנם כמה העלמות והסתרים ובפרט בהנוגע לאה"ק ת"ו וכמ"ש הרמב"ן ז"ל במכ' מאה"ק ת"ו שכל הקדוש מחבירו חרב מחבירו, ואדרבה הרי ידיעה זו דורשת התעוררות כחות פנימים ועצומים, כי הרי בודאי אין זה אלא שמנסה ה"א לדעת וכמבואר בלקו"ת אשר מנסה פירושו ג"כ לשון נס, ועי"ז נמשך הדעת האמיתי דעת העליון.

ג) בטח ממשיכים בתוקף במקצוע עבודתם להשפיע על הנוער שלע"ע אינו חב"די, אצ"ל שמגזע אנ"ש אלא אפילו אותם שאינם מגזע, כי הרי ידוע פתגם כ"ק אדמו"ר הזקן אשר החסידות הוא ענין לכל ישראל ולא ענין של כתה אחת בלבד, וצדיק גוזר והקב"ה מקיים, ואשרי של כאו"א המשתתף בפעולה זו, ומקרב עי"ז גם את הגאולה האמיתית והשלימה אשר כשיפוצו המעיינות חוצה יבוא גואלנו משיח צדקנו ויגאלנו מכל ההעלמות וההסתרים ויתקן עולם במלכות שדי ולכל בני ישראל יזרח אור ה' ויתענגו בנועם ד' וכמבואר בדרושי חג הפסח - נדפס בס' המאמרים תש"ט - הפירוש בנועם ד'.

ד) בטח יכתבו מפעולותיהם הט' בי"ט כסלו ויו"ד שבט, והימים שבינתיים.

אם איזה ישיבה רוצה שישלחו לה ספרי קה"ת בשביל הספרי' שלה עלי' לפנות ישר לכאן להנהלת המרכז לעניני חינוך.
