Greetings and blessings,

I received your letters in their time, which mentioned first a non-positive thought [1] and then your good decision — that of pursuing your studies at Yeshivas Lubavitch. It is certain that Hashem will grant you success.

You write to me that you have the idea, in order to pursue your studies, of going to the United States, to the yeshivah* that is here. Now, study is disturbed only by the yetzer hara* of man. I therefore do not see the usefulness of coming here, if you bring your yetzer hara* with you [2]. Distraction exists in the United States as much as in Eretz HaKodesh*. And the trials one faces here are no less strong than those there.

In my view, you must therefore redouble your zeal in the study of the revealed part of the Torah* and chassidus*. Likewise, you will find the means to do good to a few of your friends, to draw their hearts close to our Father Who is in heaven. Such spiritual tzedakah* refines the brain and the heart a thousand times [3], in the words of the Alter Rebbe* at the beginning of Torah Or.

Obviously, all this must be done with the agreement of the spiritual guide and the rosh yeshivah*, whose organization should not be called into question. If you continue on this path and take the firm decision that it cannot be otherwise, your resolution will be true, as it is said: "None of us will be cast off," and from then on, it is certain that you will know success.

בעתם קבלתי מכתביו, מתחלה אודות מחשבה לא נכונה ואח"כ מהחלטתו הטובה שימשיך ללמוד בישיבת תומכי תמימים ובודאי השי"ת יצליחו.

ומה שכותב שעלה בדעתו שלמען יוכל ללמוד הדרך הוא לנסוע לארצוה"ב ללמוד בהישיבה כאן, הנה המונע את הלימוד הוא היצר הרע שבאדם, ובמילא איני יודע מה תהי' התועלת בהנסיעה לכאן אם יקח עמו את היצה"ר, וענינים של פיזור הנפש ישנם בארצוה"ב יותר מאשר באה"ק ת"ו, וגם הנסיונות כאן גדולים לא פחות מאשר שם.

ולכן דעתי אשר יוסיף אומץ בלימוד תורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות וימצא גם כן איזה אופן לעשות חסד עם אחדים מחביריו לקרב את לבם לאבינו שבשמים אשר צדקה רוחנית זו מזככת את המוח והלב אלף פעמים ככה, כלשון רבינו הק' הזקן בתורה אור בתחלתו.

מובן אשר זה צ"ל נעשה בהסכמת המשפיע והר"י שלו ובאופן שלא יבלבל סדרו בהישיבה, ואם יאחז בדרכו זו בהחלטה גמורה אשר אי אפשר אחרת, והחלטה זו אמיתית הוא וכמ"ש לא ידח ממנו נדח, הרי בטח יצליח.
