Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of 5 Teves, in which you mention your state of health, which causes you discouragement.

Cease therefore to adopt this attitude. Hashem heals all flesh and works wonders. Certainly, who can determine the intention of the Creator? Sometimes the yetzer hara* suggests questions and thoughts that distance a person from moral health and therefore from physical health. One must always remember that this is only an intervention of the yetzer hara*!

You must therefore strengthen your bitachon* in Hashem, Who, when the time comes, will send you healing in all areas where it is needed. And until it reaches you, you remain an integral part of the world belonging to the Holy One, blessed be He — that is, you are His emissary to spread light in your surroundings, by means of your nefesh ha'Elokis* and your nefesh habahamis*, in all that concerns Torah* and Yiddishkeit*.

For all this to be effective, you must act with simchah*, as it is said, "Serve Hashem with simchah*." When you strengthen yourself in all this, Hashem will help you, no doubt about it, and you will obtain its realization.

You surely have a fixed time to study the revealed part of the Torah* and chassidus*. Likewise, every day, after the tefillas* Shacharis*, you read Tehillim* according to their monthly division. It would also be good, every Monday and Thursday, before tefillah*, to give a few coins to a tzedakah* fund for visiting the sick.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מה' טבת, בו כותב אודות מצב בריאותו אשר פעל עליו נמיכת הרוח.

הנה כלך מדרך זו, והרי השי"ת הוא הרופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות, ואף שאין אתנו יודע עד מה כוונת הבורא, ובמילא לפעמים היצה"ר מעורר קושיות ומחשבות המבלבלות את האדם מבריאות הרוחנית ואפילו מבריאות הגשמית, צריך לדעת תמיד שאין זה אלא מתחבולות היצר, וצריכים להיות חזק בבטחון בהשי"ת אשר במשך הזמן ישלח רפואה בהמצטרך לו וגם עד שתבוא הרפואה הרי חלק הוא מעולמו של הקב"ה ובמילא שלוחו הוא להפיץ אור בסביבתו על ידי שיאיר את נפשו נפש האלקית והבהמית בעניני תורה ומצות ויאיר גם חלקו בסביבתו ובעולמו ע"י הפצתו שם אור התורה והיהדות, וכדי שיהי' כל זה באופן יעיל צריכה להיות הפעולה בשמחה וכמ"ש עבדו את ה' בשמחה וכשיתחזק בכל הנ"ל בודאי יסייעוהו מלמעלה שיבוא הדבר בפועל.

בטח יש לו קביעות לימוד בתורת הנגלה ובתורת החסידות ואומר ג"כ השיעור תהלים (כפי שנחלק לימי החדש) בכל יום אחר תפלת שחרית, ומה טוב אשר בכל יום שני וחמישי קודם התפלה יפריש איזה פרוטות לצדקת בקור חולים.
