To the rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Shlomo Schneur Zalman [1],

Greetings and blessings,

A) I duly received your express letter of Friday of Parshas Vayechi. I thank you for informing me of the good news of the chassidic farbrengen* of Melaveh Malkah* and the establishment of a Torah* study, according to what you write.

It is surely unnecessary to remind you of the teaching of our Sages that one must ascend in matters of holiness [2]. And when one opens for Hashem an opening the size of a needle's point, He grants success comparable to the gateway of the Sanctuary.

B) You mention the N'shei uBnos Chabad* association. You say that a similar organization already exists and meets every Shabbos*. It is clear that there is no place to sow discord. At the same time, one must not give up on disseminating the teachings of chassidus*, its customs, and its practices.

There are two ways to attain such an objective. If it is possible to transform the existing organization by entrusting this mission to it as well, that is the ideal solution. If a dispute would result, then one must create this association and arrange for it not to meet at the same time as the existing organization. Likewise, the classes that will be given will strengthen and complement those of that organization. On the other hand, there will be no competition [3]. You will surely find a diplomatic means to achieve this.

C) I learned with satisfaction that you teach chassidus* to that young man. In fact, you will strive that other young men also participate in this class or in others, according to the best formula.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו המהיר מו' ויחי, ות"ח על הבשו"ט אודות התועדות המלוה מלכה והקביעות עתים ללימוד שכותב אודותם, ובודאי למותר לעוררם על פסק רז"ל מעלין בקודש, וכשפותחין להקב"ה כחודה של מחט הרי נותן הוא הצלחה כפתחו של אולם.

ב) בהנוגע למ"ש אודות ארגון נשי ובנות חב"ד, אשר יש כבר ארגון מעין זה שמתאספים בכל שבת. הנה פשיטא שאין כדאי לגרום לפירוד הלבבות, אבל לאידך גיסא אין לוותר גם על ענין הפצת הוראות החסידות דרכי' ומנהגי', ושני דרכים בזה, אם באפשרי להפוך הארגון שכבר ישנו שיתאים גם לתכלית זו הרי מה טוב, ואם יגרום זה למחלוקת וכיו"ב, אזי יש לארגן ארגון כנ"ל אשר יתאסף בזמנים שונים מאסיפת הארגון שכבר ישנו, והלימודים יהיו ג"כ כעין העדפה ותוספת על הלימוד שכבר קבעו בהארגון שישנו, אבל לא כעין התחרות (קאנקורענציא) ובודאי יש למצוא דרך דיפלומטי לזה.

ג) נהניתי ממ"ש שיש לו קביעות לימוד בדא"ח עם האברך... ובטח ישתדל למשוך עוד אברכים ללימוד כזה ע"י האברך הנ"ל או באופנים מתאימים אחרים.
