Igrot Kodesh · Letter 230 — Ongoing efforts to secure his mother's exit from Soviet Russia

By the grace of Hashem, 13 Iyar* 5706, To the honorable Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav H.[1], I greet and bless you,
Please forgive me for not having been able to respond, for various reasons, to certain letters, including yours.
A) I will begin by thanking you for the steps you have taken to obtain a certificate for my mother[2]. For the moment, it is impossible to negotiate with the representatives of Russia who are here. But I have been told that an exit visa would be obtained easily, given that she is an elderly woman of seventy years of age.
It seems that there, it is easier to obtain an exit visa when one is in possession of an entry permit for another country. It is much more complicated by other means, apart from the fact that those who wish to leave the country are viewed unfavorably.
The great Rabbi has promised his assistance and the fact that she already possessed a certificate previously may work in her favor. With the necessary effort, you will therefore succeed in obtaining this document for her.
B) I have learned that there was in Jerusalem, some years ago, a teacher at the Talmud Torah* Chayei Olam*, by the name of Yitzchak Aizik Aizen. He possessed a collection of letters of Rabbi Avraham of Kalisk*[3] and of his contemporaries, among whom possibly the Admur HaZaken*.
It would be desirable for you to locate this man and to obtain this collection, in order to send it to my father-in-law, the Rebbe* Shlita*.
C) For some time now, I have been collecting letters and discourses of the Rebbe*[4], a collection of which has just been published[5]. Perhaps you know of someone who possesses a document not included therein. Please let me know, so that I may address myself to him.

אתו הסליחה על אשר מכמה סיבות לא עניתי על מכ' ובתוכם גם מכ' כת"ר.

א) אתחיל בנתינת ת"ח על השתדלותו בענין הסרטיפיקט בשביל אמי מורתי תחי'.

והנה להשפיע כאן על ב"כ רוסיא אין לע"ע היכולת אבל אמרו פה, אשר אפשרי הדבר שכיון שדנים ע"ד אשה בת שבעים, יתנו לה רשיון היציאה. וכפי המצב שם כשמבקשים רשיון יציאה ויש רשיון כניסה למדינה אחרת יש לענין זה סכויים גדולים לטוב, משא"כ באופן אחר (מלבד זה שאז אין מביטים בעין לא טובה על מבקש הרשיון וד"ל). ולכן תקותי שבשים לב לזה שגם הרב הראשי הבטיח עזרתו בזה (ואולי יש מעלה גם בזה שכבר הי' לה סרטיפיקט) הרי בהשתדלותו הראוי' יעלה בידם לקבל סרטיפיקט בשבילה.

ב) נודעתי אשר זה כאיזה שנים מלפנים הי' בירות"ו תח"י מורה בת"ת חיי עולם ושמו יצחק אייזיק אייזן קובץ מכתבים מהר"א מקאלישק ובני דורו (ואולי גם אדה"ז).

ודבר גדול יעשה אם ימצא האיש וקובצו בידו, וישתדל שישלח את הקובץ לכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א.

ג) זה מזמן שהנני מאסף מכ' ושיחות כ"ק אדנ"ע והו"ל זה לא כבר כרך א' מהם.

אולי נודע לו מי שנמצא תח"י מהנ"ל שלא נכנס בכרך זה, אנא להודיעני ואפנה אליו.
