Igrot Kodesh · Letter 218 — Financial responsibility for receiving and distributing Chabad publications

Volume 2 · Letter 51

[Adar 5706][1]

To the erudite and Hashem-fearing Chassid,* Rav M.,[2]

I greet and bless you.

I have duly received your letter dated Rosh Chodesh* Adar Sheni,* and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for having sent packages to my mother.[3]

We are prepared to send you the books published here, as you request, but we cannot do so free of charge, for our lack of resources is considerable and it is an obstacle to the publication of many works.

Until now, the Chassidim* in the Holy Land* have not participated in the publication of books of Chassidut.* Moreover, for several years they have not been paying for what we send them, and in Jerusalem* they point out to me that the books are distributed free of charge in Tel Aviv* and ask me why I have forbidden them to do the same.

Concretely, based on your letter and your commitment, I have arranged for the sending of books to resume, on the conditions stated above. You will find the price of the books on the last page of all our publications.

Kindly give my brother fifty Israeli pounds,* taken from the sum belonging to us that is in your possession, and transmit the remainder — after keeping what is due to you — to the treasury of my father-in-law the Rabbi Shlita.* I thank you for indicating to me what that amount is.

I have long been asking whether anyone in your city possesses the commentaries, by the Rashag* or others, on the Tanya.*[4] As yet I have received no clear reply on this matter.

What will be the amount of your participation in the publication of the Chassidic discourses of 5672?[5] Will you also participate in the printing of the Likkutei Torah,* the Torat Chaim,* and the Torah Or,* and if so, for what amount and on what terms?

I thank you for replying to me as soon as possible on all these points.

With my blessing for immediate Teshuvah,* immediate redemption.
