To the Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,

scion of an illustrious family,

Rav Matisyahu Yechezkel[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of the 17th[2] of Sivan. A few days before that, two copies of your sefer* reached me. I was pleased to note that you added references in it, which inspires the reader to consult them as well. Moreover, one must seek various means, various stratagems to outwit the yetzer hara*, so that it does not notice that such-and-such man or woman is studying Torah* or fulfilling a mitzvah* in a better manner.

It would be good for you to also add to your sefer* an index of the divrei Torah* that you cite, in order to more easily find each concept of Chassidus* and what the gedolim* of this world, masters of Chassidus*, say about it.

In keeping with current usage, it would perhaps be wise to compile an index of all your seforim* together and to publish it separately. Moreover, you would thereby give yourself publicity, since some will surely want to buy all your seforim* that have appeared to date.

In this way, all will have increased opportunities to become acquainted with what has just been said and with the masters of Chassidus* whom you mention in your seforim*.

נתקבל מכתבו מטו"ב סיון ואיזה ימים לפני זה הגיעני שני טופסים מספרו, ונהניתי לראות שהוסיף הוראת המקורות אשר זה מוסיף חשק להמעיין לעיין גם בפנים הספרים ועוד אשר צריך לחפש עצות ודרכים איך לרמות היצה"ר שלא ירגיש שמשתדלים שאיש פלוני או אשה פלונית ילמדו תורה או יוסיפו בהידור מצוה.

ומה טוב הי' אם הי' מוסיף ג"כ בספרו מפתח ענינים מהד"ת שמביא בהם בכדי למצוא בנקל ענין פרטי דתורת החסידות ומה שאמרו בזה גדולי עולם נשיאי החסידות.

וכפי הנהוג עתה אפשר כדאי לעשות מפתח ענינים מכל ספריו יחד ולהדפיסו בפני עצמו (ובטח זהו ג"כ מעין פרסומת כיון שעי"ז בודאי ימצאו כאלו שירצו לקנות מספריו שהופיעו עתה), שעי"ז תורחב האפשרית לכל הרוצה להודע ע"ד הנ"ל בהנוגע לכמה וכמה מנשיאי החסידות שאודותם כתב בספריו...
