Igrot Kodesh · Letter 2133 — Tzedakah
Volume 7 · Letter 271 · To: grand Rav
By the grace of Hashem,
17 Sivan 5713,
Brooklyn,
To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem
and devotes himself to communal needs,
Rav Asher[1],
I greet you and bless you,
After a long interruption, I have finally received your letter of 13 Iyar, concerning the yeshivah*[2]. In the meantime, you have surely received my response, addressed to the direction of the yeshivah*[3]. I am surprised that no one has written to me to tell me what has happened since then. May Hashem grant that this be a good sign, that this silence be an indication of peace and success.
It is surely needless to encourage you and underline how necessary it is to do everything in your power in this domain, even if this requires you to travel frequently to Melbourne. You will therefore not oppose this.
I am surprised that you do not mention your activity in Sydney. May Hashem grant that this also be a good sign.
I took note with pleasure of the list of participants in the distribution of the study of the Talmud, although it does not indicate when the conclusion of this study will be, without making it a vow. If you join the distribution that is being made here, this will take place on 19 Kislev*. But perhaps you have set another date. In any event, may Hashem grant that this be fruitful.
My letter, written previously concerning the distribution of the Talmud[4], references tractate Shabbos 93b, dealing with work performed by two persons, when each cannot…[5]. One may conclude from this that each of the participants in this distribution has the same merit as if he had studied the entire Talmud.
You will kindly convey my wishes and brachos* to each of the participants.
I enclose an excerpt of the sichah* of the Shabbos* during which the month of Sivan was blessed. Indeed, its content is relevant throughout the year, for the Torah is given and received each day, as if it were new. This is the reason why, in the brachah* on the Torah, one praises "the One Who gives the Torah," in the present tense.
With my respects and my brachah* for success in your communal and personal concerns,
M. Schneerson
N.B.: No doubt you have received, some time ago already, the remarks I formulated[6] regarding the article you sent me.
Notes
[1] Rav A. Abramson. See concerning him letter no. 1894.
[2] Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch of Melbourne, in Australia.
[3] This is letter no. 2095.
[4] This is letter no. 869.
[5] Perform his work without the assistance of the other. In such a case, both are considered as having performed this work. The same holds for the distribution of the Talmud. Whoever takes part in it, by studying one tractate, is considered as if he had learned the entire Talmud.
