By the grace of Hashem,

36th day of the "hidden treasures"[1],

Brooklyn, New York,

I greet you and bless you,

Your son, young man filled with elevation and ardor, who multiplies positive accomplishments, Rav Yosef, has informed me that you are to undergo a surgical procedure. I have therefore mentioned your name for refuah*, that the operation should go well. May Hashem grant you a speedy refuah*. In this way, you will be able to redouble your ardor in the study of Torah, the practice of mitzvos*, and to exert your influence on a great many, since such is your merit.

It is surely needless to remind you that one must thank Hashem when one witnesses His miracles and wonders. And this hoda'ah* should take the form of increased ardor in Torah study and the practice of mitzvos*. No doubt you will yourself adopt this Jewish practice, which is judicious. You will therefore multiply your study of Torah and, in general, your fulfillment of the mitzvos*, in particular the giving of tzedakah*, according to your means.

It would be good for you to take advantage of your stay in Madrid to encourage the young men[2] who are students at the institute, that their origins should remain permanently engraved in their heart and in their mind. They are, indeed, the descendants of many generations of children of Yisrael*, fearing the word of Hashem and observing His mitzvos*. If they constantly imbue themselves with this awareness, they will overcome all the trials with which they will be confronted. It is solely in this manner that a Jew or a Jewess can attain success and happiness.

I conclude our conversation as I began it, by wishing you peace and brachah*, a speedy refuah* emanating from the Source of good, and much nachas* from the members of your family, and especially from your dear son, Mr. Yosef.

בודאי למותר להעירו אשר כשרואים נפלאות השם יתברך ויתעלה צריך להודות לשמו הגדול, והודאה זו הוא על ידי תוספת אומץ בתורה ומצוה, ובטח אשר גם כ' ינהג במנהג ישראל טוב זה, ויוסיף על שעוריו בלימוד התורה, וכן במעשה המצוות בכלל, ומצות הצדקה בפרט מתאים ליכלתו.

מהנכון שינצל ימי היותו במדריד לחזק רוח הבחורים הלומדים במכללה שיהי' חקוק בלבם ומוחם תמיד מקור מחצבתם דורות על דורות של בני ישראל חרדים ויראים לדבר ה' ולמצותו, ובהיות ידיעה זו ומחשבה זו תקועה בלבם ומוחם תמיד גם הם חזק יעמדו נגד כל הנסיונות העומדים בדרכם, אשר זה אך זה הוא הדרך להצלחה ואושר לכל אחד ואחת מישראל.
