By the grace of Hashem,

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of 28 Nissan, in which you describe to me the situation at the yeshivah*. You tell me that, for various reasons, you are being advised to leave it and go elsewhere. You ask me what I think.

It is quite obvious, without there being the slightest doubt on this subject, that you must apply yourself to improving the situation of the yeshivah*, if it is not good in the way you describe. On the other hand, you cannot abandon it. On the contrary, devote all your strength and ardor to embellishing it, enlarging it, and developing it.

The responsibility for accomplishing all this devolves, in the first place, upon those who work at the yeshivah*[1] and lend it their support. They are aware of the value of the study of Torah in general, and of penimiyus haTorah* in particular. It is surely needless to say more.

You know the saying[2] of my father-in-law the Rebbe, may his merit shield us, according to which Hashem rewards every good deed. In his own words, "the Almighty does not remain in debt." Moreover, the recompense is in proportion to the effort.

If people seek to harm you and ask you to leave the yeshivah*, your merit and your reward will be all the greater if you do not do so. The Mishnah states that "the reward of a mitzvah* is the mitzvah* itself." You will therefore be rewarded by witnessing your success within the yeshivah*.

In this way, you will receive an increased brachah* and success in your particular concerns.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ח ניסן, בו כותב ע"ד המצב בהישיבה וכן אשר מפני כמה טעמים מציעים לפניו שיעזוב את ישיבת... ויעבור לעבוד במקום אחר ושואל חוות דעתי בזה.

הנה פשיטא ואין בזה כל ספק, שאדרבה אם כפי שכותב מצב הישיבה אינו כדבעי, הרי העצה לתקנה, ולא לעזוב את הישיבה, אלא אדרבה להוסיף כח ואומץ לשפרה, לגדלה ולהאדירה, ולכל לראש האחריות בזה הוא על אלו העובדים והמשתתפים בעניני הישיבה, והמכירים ביוקר של תלמוד תורה בכלל ותלמוד פנימיות התורה בפרט, והאריכות בזה אך למותר, וידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע שהקב"ה משלם בעד כל פעולה טובה, ובלשונו הק' "דער אויבערשטער בלייבט ניט קיין בעל חוב" ובפרט שלפום צערא אגרא, ואם מעיקים לו ומפתים אותו שיעזוב את הישיבה, והוא אינו עושה זה, הרי זכותו ושכרו גדול ביותר וביותר, וע"פ פסק המשנה שכר מצוה מצוה, הנה יראה שכר ע"י הצלחתו בפעולותיו בהישיבה, שבדרך ממילא ימשיך זה גם כן תוספת ברכה והצלחה בעניניו הפרטיים.
