B'ezras Hashem*,

13th day of the month of redemption,[1] 5713,

Brooklyn, New York,

May he be at peace, this great man, great Rav and distinguished

chassid* who fears Hashem*, enthusiastic man, of manifold

accomplishments, of vast knowledge, and of an illustrious

family, accumulating good deeds, descended from a prestigious

lineage, honorable and radiant man, Rav Yisrael Abuhatzera[2] shlita*,

Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter in its time. I was likewise satisfied to obtain your regards by way of the great Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Binyamin Eliyahu Gorodetski.

I was, above all, satisfied to learn from Rav B. E. G.[3] that you bear me no ill will whatsoever, feel no resentment, for you have understood that my intention was good.[4] In my view, each one must use the strengths at his disposal for the greatest good of all. This merit falls upon all, and no one may arrogate to himself the right to remain alone.

You know the letter of Rabbi Sherira Gaon, recounting that Rav, when he arrived in Bavel* and found a place of Torah*, did not settle there. On the contrary, he went to where the Torah* was absent, and he devoted all his strengths to fencing in the clearing he had found.[5]

On the occasion of the festival days that are approaching, for us and for all Yisrael*, for the good, I extend to you, by means of the present letter, my blessing for a kosher* and joyous festival, and may the long-awaited promise be fulfilled, that "as in the days of your going out from Mitzrayim*, I will show you wonders," with our true and complete redemption, in your lifetime and in ours, through our righteous Moshiach*.

With my profound respect and my blessing on the occasion of the festival,

I am enclosing a copy of my letter addressed to all,[6] which deals with what is timely.[7]

בעתו נתקבל מכתבו וגם שמחתי לקבל פ"ש מכהדר"ג שליט"א על ידי הרה"ג והרה"ח וו"ח אי"א נו"מ עוסק בצרכי צבור וכו' וכו' מוהר"ר בנימין אלי' שי' גורודצקי, ובעיקר שמחתי לשמוע מפי הרבא"ג שי' כי [אין] לכת"ר כל תרעומות עלי ואפילו לא טינא בלב שאין כוונתי אלא לטובה. ולדעתי צריך כל אחד ומחויב בזכותא דא להקדיש כוחותיו לטובת הכלל ולא לישב בדד, וכמובא באגרת הידועה של ר' שרירא גאון, אשר כשבא רב לבבל והגיע למקום תורה לא קבע שם מושבו אלא אדרבה הלך למקום שאין בו תורה והקדיש כוחותיו לגדור גדר בבקעה אשר מצא.

ולקראת ימי החג הבאים עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לחג כשר ושמח, ולקיום היעוד המקווה - כימי צאתך מארץ מצרים אראנו נפלאות, בגאולתנו האמיתית והשלימה בימיו ובימינו על ידי משיח צדקנו.
