To the Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem*,

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, which was undated, in which you ask me about your settling in the United States.

I am surprised that you are even asking such a question. Indeed, you know my opinion, expressed long ago, on this matter. I do not understand and I do not accept this desire to relocate as quickly as possible and, often, the very principle of such a relocation.

How much more so is this the case for a man who has been chosen by Hashgachah Pratis* to draw close Jewish hearts to their Father in Heaven, by means of the luminary of the Torah*, which is the teaching of Chassidus*, its ways and its practices.

Hashem* has also granted you the possibility of providing simultaneously for your material and spiritual sustenance.[2] In my opinion, it is therefore quite clear that you yourself, and the members of your household, must receive the satisfaction of your physical and moral needs through this channel.

For this, you must assume your role with strength, carry out the mission that has been entrusted to you, to the full extent of your ability. And that will be sufficient, for "the result is in proportion to the effort."[3]

במענה על מכתבו - בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - בו שואל דעתי אודות העתקתו לארצוה"ב.

ולפלא שהוא בגדר שאלה אצלו, כי הרי ידוע מכבר דעתי בכלל שאיני מבין ואיני גורס הבהלה בהעתקה וברובא דרובא גם ההעתקה עצמה, ובפרט בנוגע לאיש אשר זכה שההשגחה העליונה בחרה בו לקרב את לבן של בני ישראל לאביהם שבשמים ע"י המאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות דרכי' והנהגותי' וגם הזמין לו את זה שתהי' פרנסתו בגשמיות ביחד עם פרנסתו ברוחניות, שבמילא ברור הדבר לדעתי שזהו הצנור שלו ושל כל ב"ב שיחיו שעי"ז יקבלו כל המצטרך להם בגשמיות וברוחניות, ובלבד שיעמוד חזק על משמרתו למלאות תפקידו כדבעי עד כמה שתלוי בו, אבל גם זה מספיק כי לפום גמלא שיחנא.
