Igrot Kodesh · Letter 2060 — Prayer

By the grace of Hashem,

To the great Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I have received your letter of 21 Adar, in which you write that you and your wife, the Rebbetzin, have set Thursday 24 Nissan as the date of your departure for Eretz HaKodesh*. You will take the boat as far as Paris and from there continue your journey by air to Eretz HaKodesh.

In accordance with what we discussed when you were here, Hashem will grant that your trip go well, that you reach your destination fruitfully, and that you return home, when the time comes, in a good and propitious moment.

It is surely unnecessary to repeat to you what we discussed. Eretz Yisrael is "the land toward which the eyes of Hashem are always turned, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year." One who is about to enter the palace of a flesh-and-blood king changes his garments and chooses the most beautiful that he possesses, to the fullest extent possible. How much more so must this be the case for the spiritual garments one wears, when one travels to Eretz HaKodesh.

The Tanya explains at length that the garments of man, more precisely those of his neshamah*, are thought, speech, and action. One must therefore, every day, improve and beautify them. Without making it a vow, you must give every weekday morning, before davening, at least a few coins to tzedakah*, and you will have an additional shiur* in the inner part of Torah, that is, Chassidus, which the Zohar, vol. 3, page 124b, calls "the Tree of Life." Iggeres HaKodesh* explains this in chapter 26, and this concerns Eretz Yisrael specifically, called "the land of life."

Every day, before davening, it would therefore be good to reflect for a few moments on the concepts [2] that arouse ahavas Hashem* and yiras Hashem*. You will discover them in the seforim and the maamarim of Chassidus.

I enclose for you the kuntres* that appeared for the 2nd of Nissan [3], whose content you will surely make available to as many people as possible.

קבלתי מכתבו מכ"א אדר, בו כותב אשר הוא וזוגתו הרבנית שיחיו כבר קבעו זמן נסיעתם לעלות לאה"ק ת"ו ליום ה' כ"ד ניסן הבע"ל באני' לפאריז ומשם באוירון לאה"ק ת"ו.

ומתאים למה שדברנו בהיותו כאן, הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שתהי' הנסיעה כשורה וביאתם לשם להצלחה וחזירתם למקומם בזמן המיועד בשעה טובה ומוצלחת. ובטח למותר לכפול עוד הפעם מה שנדברנו, אשר בהיות ארץ ישראל היא ארץ אשר עיני ה"א בה מראשית השנה עד אחרית שנה, וכמו שהמתכונן לכנוס להיכל מלך בשר ודם, הרי משנה הוא ומיפה מלבושיו עד כמה שאפשר, הרי עאכו"כ שצריך להיות כן בנוגע למלבושים הרוחניים טרם עלי' לאה"ק ת"ו, ולבושי האדם הרי מבוארים בתניא בארוכה שזהו המחשבה דבור ומעשה שלו שהם לבושי הנשמה, ובמילא צריך בכל יום להוסיף הטבה ויפוי, ולכל הפחות, וכמובן בלי נדר, ליתן בכל יום מימות החול, קודם התפלה בבקר, איזה פרוטות לצדקה ולקבוע שיעור נוסף בפנימיות התורה, אשר היא תורת החסידות אשר בזהר נקראת אילנא דחיי (זהר ח"ג דף קכ"ד ע"ב ונתבאר באגרת הקדש סי' כ"ו ומובן שמתאימה בפרט לארץ ישראל הנקראת ארץ החיים ) ובמילא מהנכון לחשוב בכל יום קודם התפלה איזה רגעים בדברים המביאים לאהבת ד' ויראתו, ואשר נמצא לרוב בספרי החסידות ומאמרים...
