To the Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Shimon Aryeh [1],

Greetings and blessings,

I am surprised that you do not speak at all of the chassidishe farbrengen* you surely organized on the day of the hilula* [2], the 10th of Shevat, and for the yom tov* of Purim. And you will do the same for the 2nd of Nissan [3].

You know the letter of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, in which he relates a reply that the Rebbe Maharash gave to one of his chassidim, who lived outside the Pale [4], that is, devoid of a chassidishe environment. He indicated to him that he had not been exiled to a remote corner solely to ensure his material parnasah*. In fact, Hashem was entrusting him with the mission of illuminating that place with the light of kedushah*.

All the more so is this the case for you, since you find yourself in a city where many people who fear Hashem reside, but who have not yet had access to the luminary of Torah, that is, to the teaching of Chassidus, to its ways and its practices. You must redouble your ardor in this matter.

Perhaps it is conceivable that, when you have assumed this mission, Hashem will grant you an opportunity to settle in New York, as you have always desired.

With my brachah for good health and for celebrating the yom tov of Matzos, which is approaching, in a kosher and freilichen* manner,

I enclose a kuntres* that has just appeared. No doubt you will make its content available to as many as possible.

...לפלא שאינו מזכיר מאומה ע"ד ההתועדות, שבטח עשה ביום ההילולא יו"ד שבט העבר וחג הפורים שעבר וכן יעשה בב' ניסן הבע"ל וכבר ידוע מכתב כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בו כותב ע"ד מענה כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהר"ש) נ"ע, לאחד מחסידיו שגר מחוץ לתחום המושב, ובמילא בלא סביבה חסידותית, אשר עליו לדעת שלא בשביל פרנסתו הגשמית הגלה לפנה רחוקה כ"א למחי' שלחו ה' להאיר את הסביבה באור דקדושה, ועאכו"כ כת"ר שי' שנמצא בעיר בה יש כמה אנשים יראים וחרדים, אלא שעוד לא זכו ליהנות ממאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות דרכי' ומנהגי' שעליו להשתדל בזה בתוספת אומץ וכח, ואפשר י"ל שכשימלא תפקידו זה, יזמין לו השי"ת הזדמנות טובה להעתיק לניו יארק מתאים לרצונו מאז.
