To the directors of Yeshivah Lubavitch of Lod,

upon whom Hashem will bestow long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your correspondence of 18 and 19 Teves, and the two letters of 25 Teves, concerning the examinations that took place twice[1]. May Hashem grant that this be introduced at a good and fruitful moment.

Our Sages say that only the beginnings are difficult, and in the future everything will surely proceed more quickly. I await good news. You tell me that the examiners will let me know their feelings when they have finished questioning the students. This seems to me difficult to understand, for the global assessment in this matter matters little[2].

On the contrary, the appraisal that may be formulated about each student should not be modified for accessory reasons. If there is no other reason for it, you will therefore communicate to me the results of the students who have already taken the examinations.

Likewise, I duly received your letter concerning the journey of the emissary of the Sages who went from your yeshivah* to England. I have already written to the rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Ben Tzion Shemtov, emissary of the Sages, and I asked him, upon receipt of your letter, to discuss the details of all this with you.

You have surely received in due time my previous letter and you will therefore reply to it in detail.

My proposal concerning the day of the hilula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, is the same as that of last year[3].

P.S.: I thank you for informing me of the repair of the structure on the roof of the yeshivah* building, and the repair, in progress, of the lower floor. May this house be faithful to the One Hashem and to His Name, which is One.

בנועם קבלתי מכתביהם מח"י י"ט וכ"ה טבת (שני מכתבים) ע"ד הבחינות שנערכו פעמיים, ויה"ר מהשי"ת שתהי' התחלה בשעה טובה ומוצלחת, וכיון שלפי מרז"ל הרי רק התחלות קשות, הנה בטח להבא תהי' במהירות יותר, ואחכה לבשו"ט, ומ"ש שחוו"ד הבוחנים יודיעו כשיגמרו הבחינות. הנה, לכאורה, אינו מובן, כי אין בזה ענין שנוגע הסה"כ. ואדרבה אין לבלבל, מצד חשבונות צדדים, חוו"ד על תלמיד פלוני ופלוני, ואם אין טעם אחר בדבר, הרי יודיעו תוצאות הבחינה מהתלמידים שנבחנו כבר.

כן נתקבל מכתבם בנוגע לנסיעת השד"ר מישיבתם לאנגליא, וכבר כתבתי להרה"ח הוו"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ וכו' מוהרב"צ שי' שם טוב שד"ר, שכשיקבל מכתבם יתדבר אתם ע"ד הפרטים בזה.

מכתבי הקודם בטח נתקבל במועדו, ויענו עליו בפרטיות.

הצעתי בנוגע להנהגה ביום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, היא זו דאשתקד.
