Greetings and blessings,

It is doubtless unnecessary to remind you of what the deep concept according to which "Israel is a unique nation on the earth" encompasses. It signifies not only, according to its literal sense, that the Jewish people believe in the One Hashem and in the one Torah, but also that they bring to evidence this unity in everything.

There is no other power than that of Hashem in the world. Hashem is one, and His Unity is infinite. Even more, all aspects of the world proclaim this unity. In fact, matter and spirit are not two separate dimensions. Certainly, as our Sages remark, "He who wishes to err, let him err!" But, in reality, these two dimensions form only one.

Such is the purpose of the Jewish person, who must understand and feel deep within himself the unity of Hashem, explain it also to his surroundings and to all those who receive his influence, wherever he can exercise it.

It is the same also for what concerns physical health. When the latter must be reinforced, one must, in parallel, strengthen the health of the neshamah*, and our Sages say: "To whoever adds[1], one adds[2]."

I therefore allow myself to point out to you that your father should intensify his study of our holy Torah, the Torah of life. For it is through her intermediary that "He has implanted within us eternal life"[3]. One of the explanations is the following. When one finds oneself in this world, one must possess true life[4]. And this must be felt by the body, appear in it in an evident manner, as the Rambam* rules, according to whom, in his Hilchos Deos*, at the beginning of chapter 4, "the good health of the body is part of the avodah* of Hashem."

... בטח למותר לעוררו ע"ד המובא בעומק הרעיון דישראל הם גוי אחד בארץ שאין זה רק כפשוטו שהם מאמינים בה' אחד ובתורה אחת אלא שהם ממשיכים האחדות בכל הענינים, היינו שאין שניות בעולם כלל, כי כמו שנקרא הקב"ה אחד שהוא אחדות הפשוטה הרי גם בעולם נמצאת אחדות בין כל הענינים שבו, ובפרט אשר הגשמיות והרוחניות אינם שני ענינים נפרדים, ורק שניתן מקום כמרז"ל שהרוצה לטעות יבוא ויטעה, אבל באמת אחד הם, וזה מתפקידו של איש הישראלי להבין ולהרגיש בעצמו אחדות הוי' ולהבינה ג"כ לסביבתו ובכל מושפעיו ובכל מקום שידו מגעת, וה"ה ג"כ בנוגע לבריאות, שכאשר נצרכה הוספה בבריאות הגוף צריכה להיות מתאימה להוספה בבריאות הנשמה וכלשון רז"ל כל המוסיף מוסיפין לו, ולכן ארשה לעצמי לעוררו אשר מהנכון שאביו שליט"א יוסיף בלימוד השיעורים דתורתנו תורת חיים אשר ע"י חיי עולם נטע בתוכנו, שאחד הפירושים בזה, אז זייענדיק אין וועלט זאל מען לעבען מיט חיים אמיתים שזה צ"ל נרגש ונראה גם בגוף בגשמיות וכפסק הרמב"ם, היות הגוף בריא ושלם מדרכי השם הוא (דעות רפ"ד).
