upon whom Hashem will bestow long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of 18 Teves, with the photograph[2]. I thank you for it and am most grateful for this gift.

May Hashem grant that I soon receive the photograph of the inner state of these students — that is to say, of the state of their knowledge of the revealed part of the Torah and of Chassidus*, of their conduct permeated with yiras shamayim*, of their piety not only in action and in feelings, but also in understanding.

With my blessing for success in your sacred mission,
