Igrot Kodesh · Letter 197 — Distributing Rosh Hashana Message to Jewish Soldiers

By the grace of Hashem, 24 Elul 5705,
To the great Rabbi, honorable man, who fears Hashem, well known for his many accomplishments, active and of pleasant conduct, the Rav Y.[1], who is called Doctor Hertz,

I greet you and bless you,

My father-in-law, the Rebbe* Shlita of Lubavitch, has sent, by post, a message to Jewish soldiers, on the occasion of Rosh Hashana*, which is approaching.

This message may also be of great benefit to soldiers serving in the British army and, in particular, to those who are in the countries conquered by that army. In this way, they will be able to mobilize and come spiritually to the aid of the Jews residing in those lands.

We therefore thought it useful to send you several copies of this message. Thus, if you deem it appropriate, you may distribute it, by airmail, to these soldiers.

We have also had several copies of the letter of my father-in-law, the Rebbe* Shlita, sent to the Jews of Europe. Through your office of religious affairs, these letters will be able to reach various places in the liberated countries, with which there is no other means of communication. This merit is therefore entrusted to you.

Of course, if you require additional copies of these two letters, we will send them to you, in accordance with your instructions, at whatever address you are kind enough to provide us.

I will conclude by wishing you a good year, as Rosh Hashana*, which will fall on Shabbat*, approaches. I wish you a good and sweet year. May it be entirely Shabbat* and rest for eternity.

ובשים לב לתועלת המר[ו]בה מקריאת מעסדזש גם ליהודים שבצבא האנגלי, וביחוד לאלה הנמצאים במדינות הכבושות תחת ידי החיל האנגלי, כדי שיתעוררו להשתדל בעזרה רוחנית לאחב"י המתגוללים שם.

מצאנו לנכון לשלח לכת"ר מספר מסוים של עקז. מהמעסדזש הזה, כדי שיוכל באם ימצא לנכון להפיצם ע"י אויר בין החילים הנ"ל.

גם שלחנו מספר מסוים של עקז. מהמכתב של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א ליהודי יוראפ. באשר ע"י לשכה הדתית אשר על ידו יוכלו מכתבים אלו להגיע למקומות שונים בארצות המשוחררות, אשר באופן אחר א"א לבוא בקשור עמהם. ומגלגלין זכות זו ע"י כת"ר ועו"ר הזכאים.

מובן מאליו אשר אם יוצרכו עוד מספר עקז. משני מכתבים אלו [נ]מציאם תיכף כפי הוראתו ע"פ האדריסה אשר יורנו.

אסיים בברכת השנה לר"ה הבע"ל שחל להיות ביום השבת, ברכת שנה טובה ומתוקה, אשר היא כולה תהי' יום שכולו שבת ומנוחה.
