Greetings and blessings,

I respond to your letter, in which you tell me that you have undertaken the construction of a house. May Hashem grant that you know success, material and spiritual at once, for yourself and for the members of your family, in all domains.

Different texts of Chassidus* define the three needs which are food, clothing, and the house. The latter corresponds to the Torah and the mitzvos*, which protect man, at a distance. You will consult, on this subject, the beginning of the Torah Or, commenting on the verse "What house will you build for Me?", the Likkutei Torah on three Parshiyos at the same reference, the Likkutei Torah at the end of Parshas Berachah, the end of the sequence of chassidic* discourses Mayim Rabim 5636, and other references still.

It follows from all these explanations that the construction of a material house must consolidate that of the spiritual house, that is to say, the study of the profound dimension of the Torah and all that is linked to the fervor of prayer.

These two elements are linked, and, to be more exact, it is fitting to unify the matter and the spirit, so that they form only one and the same entity, as the explanation justifying that Israel be called "a unique nation on the earth" specifies, regarding which you will consult the ninth chapter of Iggeres HaKodesh.

You question me regarding your son, and you propose to have him study secular sciences only when he has acquired a good knowledge of the Gemara and its commentaries. I think that this is effectively a good solution.

במענה על מכתבו, בו מודיע שנגש לבנות לו בית, הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שיהי' בהצלחה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד בשבילו, בשביל ב"ב יחיו בכל הפרטים, ובאשר מבואר בתורת החסידות בכמה מקומות בביאור (שלשת הענינים דמזון לבוש ו)בית שזהו הענין דתומ"צ הבאים בדרך מקיף דמקיף, יעויין בתו"א בתחלתו בהענין דאיזה בית אשר תבנו לי וכן בלקו"ת לג"פ שם, לקו"ת ס"פ ברכה, בההמשך דמים רבים-תרל"ו בסופו ובכ"מ, הרי במילא מובן מזה שלבנין הבית בגשמיות, נחוץ במאד שיוסיף אומץ בענין בית ברוחניות, היינו בלימוד פנימיות התורה ובהענינים השייכים לעבודת התפלה, והא בהא תליא או יותר נכון לאחד גשמיות ורוחניות, אחד ממש, וכידוע הפירוש דישראל נק' גוי אחד בארץ (עיין אגרת הקדש סימן ט').

בשאלתו בענין בנו... שי', הנה נכונה מחשבתו לחכות בלימודים חיצונים עד שתהי' לו הבנה מלאה בגפ"ת.
