Greetings and blessings,

You describe to me your personal situation and you inform me of your intention to settle outside of Eretz Yisrael. You know my position in the matter, which is based on what I have been able to observe among the chassidim*, having a stature and a profession, who have settled in the United States, in Canada, or in South America. This settlement has unfortunately had as effect the diminishing of their faculties.

You tell me what your chances are in the other places. I am very afraid that there is no guarantee that this immigration will have positive consequences. Obviously, on my part, this is not a clear-cut position, but rather an opinion forged on the basis of experience.

It is very regrettable that your thought and, it seems, your will disperse themselves in all the places, with the exception of the one in which you find yourself now. The Baal Shem Tov says that "man finds himself where his will is." In this way, you do not bring to the place in which you reside, for the moment, all the attention which it would deserve. From it results a lack for what should be realized and for your state of health. And I am afraid that it is the same for your wife. Indeed, the fact of dispersing yourself in this manner can only have a negative consequence on your health and on that of your close ones.

I do not want to say more, not wishing that you consider my intervention as if I were preaching morality at you, chas veshalom. I am only trying to improve the situation, to the extent that this is possible.

With my blessing of success and good health, for you and your wife, so that you may give me good news soon,

... ובמ"ש בענין מצבו הפרטי ומחשבתו ע"ד להתיישב באחת הארצות בחו"ל, הנה בטח ידוע לו השקפתי בזה על יסוד מה שראיתי אנ"ש בעלי צורה ומקצוע, שהעתיקו לארצוה"ב קנדה או לדרום אמריקה, ההעתקה הביאה לטשטוש צורתם ח"ו וכפי שמתאר הסיכויים שיש לו במקומות אחרים, חוששני במאד מאד, שאין בטחה שבהעתקה זו יהיו תוצאות טובות יותר, - מובן שאין זה ענין של החלטה גמורה אלא רק השקפה על יסוד הנסיון וכו'.

חבל במאד מאד שכיון שבמחשבתו (וכנראה גם רצונו) משוטט הוא בכל הארצות לבד מקומו עתה, הרי כפי פתגם הבעש"ט במקום שרצונו של אדם שם הוא נמצא, הרי עכ"פ פועל זה עקירת שימת לב המתאימה מהענינים דמקומו עתה, ובמילא ה"ז מביא העדר תועלת להענינים ולבריאותו, וחוששני שגם של זוגתו תחי', כי אי אפשר שפיזור הנפש לא יפעול על הבריאות שלו ועל בריאות הקרובים, ואין רצוני להאריך בזה שלא ירצה לפרש דברי כענין של מוסר ח"ו ורק מנסה הנני לתקן הענין אם אפשרי הדבר.

בברכת הצלחה ובריאות הנכונה לו ולזוגתו שיחיו, שיבשר טוב בקרוב.
